Why is it that you hear about Mustangs damaging axles and such, but Marauders not? IIRC last time I went to a Mustang board I saw some threads about axle problems in the higher-horsepower stangs. How come the higher horsepower Marauders (Forced Induction) and their big heavy arses don't seem to be having the same difficulties?

Don't the Mustangs have Independent Rear Suspension (IRS)?

That's like having two additional driveshafts and four more U-Joints, right?

I don't know, do all of them?

only the later editions cobra mustangs (1999 and up) had IRS. all other had a solid axel.

It's my understanding that only the 03-04 Cobra was IRS.
The rest have a setup similar tours. And some Cobra guys want out of the IRS for wheel hop and traction issues.

Mr Continental is correct.

The difference between Mustangs and MMs is MMs are autos and Mustangs are manuals. When Mustangs launch off the line, it is not uncommon to launch from 5000 rpm min. Some get to red line and dump the clutch. That is a hell of a shock for the axles. I don't think the same shock can be accomplished with an auto.

You will be fine as long as there is no wheel hop. Get control arms.

I have probably changed out 12 sets on the A model there is a TSB that covers this and is covered by warrranty

6100RPM launches with slicks on moser axles for a few weeks and they held together great. (my stang of course) Some people try stock axles and they work. Its kind of hit or miss with the launch 99% of your axle failures on stangs are from a launch.

That is correct, my 99 Cobra has an IRS and launching the car is difficult. If I let out the clutch quickly above 3000rpm I will get massive wheel hop. I don't even consider dumping the clucth at any rpm. The IRS Cobras have been breaking axles at stock power levels on street tires.

Most solid axle Mustangs that have problems are when the power level is increased and slicks are used.
