A little lite reading. Any of you gear heads have any experience or ever heard of these cheap ponies?

All of those "Remedies" sound very logical, I would try them.:rasta:

Indexing the spark plugs won't work on the 4.6's they put the plug in the middle of the chamber vs Pushrod cars place it into the side.
I wouldn't mess with the coolant because it helps lubricate the water pump. If you had a track car I could understand doing such a thing.
I don't know where the IAT's are on our cars but I'd just leave it alone. IF the car thinks the air going in is colder it will add more timing and could cause detonation/pinging issues. I'd advise against it.
Just my 2 cents

This is correct. Moving the IAT's is a trick Miata guys do to advance there timing I know this cause I had one and did this. The thing is a Miata runs regular gas and is setup for that so you can move the IAT get a few degrees of timing advanced then run premium to make up for the advance and you got yourself a few more ponies. The problem doing this to a MM is your already setup to run premium only so by advancing the timing you arent gonna have the octane to do it so here come the detonation. You could probably do it if you run something over 93 octane but around here that is 100 octane which isnt cheap so I guess its your preference. Another thing is if you modify it to much then you have to start all over and not sure how much a IAT is for a MM but they werent cheap for a Miata.

Another trick is to replace the IAT with a 1k resistor which simulates something like 40* or 0* or something like that. You can't run that way for long though without the engine throwing a code. The ECU compares IAT temperature with coolant temperature I believe to make sure it is reading correctly. It only compares it occasionally. I wonder if the ECU will throw a code if you move it.
