Has anyone had experience with these kits/modifications? Also, I have not been able to find any shift kit or any valve body that specifically says it will work on a 4R75W (2004 MM) Factory Tech's website used to say 4R75W, it has since been completely removed and says 4R70W.

Will the J-Mod work on a 4R75W? Will a TransGo shift kit for a 4R70W work on a 4R75W?

Jason, I believe the valve bodies are the same in the 4R70W and the 4R75W, so the any of your choices *should* work.

But...(you KNEW there'd be a "but"...)

Read this (http://forums.modulardepot.com/showthread.php?threadid=4121) for Jerry Wroblewski's take on using Trans-Go shift kits. (Remember he's the "J" in J-mod). Scroll down about half-way to the reply from "SCT Guy" (that's Jerry).

An excellent link, RF, thank you. Does the Baumann work the same way? I know Lidio is using a Baumann shift kit.

I'm looking into this J-Mod too.

Instructions for the J-Mod refer to, the newest, being a 1997 4R70W transmission - will my seperator plate look the same?

I performed the "J" mod on my car over 20k miles ago - now have just short of 50k miles on the clock. I installed a tune from DR this summer w/out any line pressure increase. I then installed a B&M deep cast aluminum transmission pan (extra 3 qts.) and one of their plate type coolers.
Through it all the transmission has performed flawlessly and the tune from Dennis cleaned up the problems with the stock T/C lock-up points perfectly.

I did the j-mod as well some 15k ago.

I have Jerry's drawings if you want them. I'll need an email addy however.;)

Yes, I know it's on the CrownVic.Net site, but this tech article was made up from notes on this site, and drawings Jerry sent to a fellow Marauder owner formerly on this site.

It will work just fine on the 4R70W or the 4R75W.

Bill Bowker (Marauderer) did this on his car after meeting with Jerry W. and having Jerry personally tune his car on a Saturday afternoon for a few hours. He did a lot of research even after talking to Jerry before making this mod to his car, and I am telling you this is the way to go...IMHO.

I'm looking into this J-Mod too.I've not heard anything bad about the Baumann kits. A number of members on CVN have had good luck with them. My personal opinion is to stick with the J-mod. Jerry was one of the principle designers of the 4R70W and I feel there are few, if any, people who understand this transmission better than he does.

If you want some more "light reading", check out "Transmissions 101 (http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny/transmission/index.shtml)" on the TCCoA site.

Not to take away anything of the J-Mod but I have the Trans-Go Shift kit installed 2 years ago and I have no problems with my trans and it shifts Firm. :D

Flame suit is on. :flamer:

Will the J-Mod work on a 4R75W? Will a TransGo shift kit for a 4R70W work on a 4R75W?
The 4R75W is a 4R70W with a turbine speed sensor, and revised programming in the PCM. Nothing more.

Was all set to do the J-mod on my '03, but recent discussions with Lidio have put that on hold. According
to Lidio, an NA Marauder with his tune does not need the J-mod at all. Dunno whether this would also be
true for Dennis' tune, but I don't see why not.

I've built a fair number of automatics, and know my way around a valve body pretty well. As a rule, I'd
rather firm up my shifts without resorting to increased line pressure, but I think I'm gonna defer to Lidio
on this one, since he's spent a whole lot more time R&Ding this than I ever will...

What is the advantage to the J-Mod/TransGo?Baumann compared to a chip/tuner that modifies the shifting?

What is the advantage to the J-Mod/TransGo?Baumann compared to a chip/tuner that modifies the shifting? The main advantage I see to the J-Mod is that you're altering the shift characteristics by enlarging orifices,
and/or removing accumulator springs. The only way the tuner can firm up a shift is to raise line pressure.
That's not necessarily bad, but my preference has always been to only run as much line pressure as I need
to get the job done. But as I said, Lidio has done the R&D, and I believe he's worked with Jerry W on this.
Lidio prefers to use only the tuner on NA cars.
