I accidentally deleted the thread when merging the two. Here it is again. Please vote again.
I am going to be purchasing a set of 4.10s very soon. I am leaning one way, but want to know every one's opinions and WHY.
Thanks in advance!

For a small difference, Ford is the way to go.
Mine (4:10's) are quiet.:coolman:
Ford Racing all the way this car we drive is the best and ask for nothing but the best. I just installed 4.10's on mine and it feels great just waitin to get my X cal2 back so i can get the speedo back correct its off now about 20 miles...
I have Ford Racing gears, they whine from 50 to 70 MPH. My Ford Racing 4.10s are loud.
I've had Ford Racing gears in my car for the last 10,000 miles and have had no problems. I've done brake torque launches from stoplights, donuts in the middle of parking lots (during the winter). No problems, no noise. I did alot of searching here and I made my decision based on other people's experiences with them. I wouldn't change them for any other.

ford racing gears should be the only gear you install. Its the easiest to put in also. If it whines then you didnt get the backlash or pinion angle right. Unless they are used gears they sometimes whine at higher speeds.

It seems obvious as to which ones you should get...Not that we are biased or anything....:burnout:

Go with the Ford Racing gears. Most likely there will no or very minimal adjustment. I've had mine for over 20k+ miles and no whine at any speed.
I used Ford Racing gears in my car, about a year since install and they have not been any problem whatsoever.
I did a search on this site about rear end gear installations and copied all the posts that described "how to" and problem areas. I then contacted a fellow marauder owner who had his gears changed and he recommended a certain party here in town.
I went to different shops, armed with the info from this site and found that almost all didn't know much about installing rear gears although they want you to believe they do.
When I got to the party recommended by my friend he was able to answer every one of the points I brought up and even more that I didn't.
He doesn't come cheap but the installation is perfect.
FOR RIDER90, sorry to hear your gears whine, maybe the mech didn't add the friction modifier as required. Just a thought.

How are Ford Racing gears easier to install verses any other brand?

Okay, I'll throw in another vote for Ford Racing...mine have been in for 15,000+ miles...I have a slight sound at around 65-70 MPH, but I'm not sure if it's the gears, AMMC driveshaft, or an exhaust resonance...it's no biggie.
Jason, my understanding is that they generally use the same shims as the OEM gears did, so they don't require a lot of set-up to get right. Almost Plug-and-Play...

The 3.55's in my stang were taken out of a bronco with 180k. They are quiet as can be. :) Now thats quality

If I were to hold a set of Ford Racing 4.10s and a set of Richmond 4.10s, I would not be able to tell any difference between the two. They should be indentical except for the cut, right?
I guess I should direct this question to sabtaj1...?

IMHO.... I don't think the physical install of Ford Racing gears are any easier compared to other gears. The "easier" part is the setup of the gear pattern. Since the Ford Racing gears are most likely made by the same company that makes the original 3:55's in our MM's there is little or no difference in tolerances, only the number of teeth. Therefore most of the times it's just a matter of changing the ring and the pinion gears. Just go ahead and get the Ford Racing gears you won't be sorry.

Al i know is that with the ford gears they are a basic (plug and play). You can use the original shims. Unlike other gears made for the 8.8 require you to shim yourself to get the proper backlash. I did mine last week, I installed 4.10's and took me an hour and a half. I had to flip flop the shims to get the proper backlash. I ended up with about 10 thousanths for the backlash. Now with the other gears you are pretty much pileing shims on both sides trying to get the right amount of backlash. Plus this way you are still running an original ford part. You wouldnt put a chevy in ur ford? Just kiddin. LOL. either way its your choice on what you preffer. So best of luck! Hope you enjoy the 4.10's! I do!!
