Can you decode this?

Body is 63C, Color is JM, Trim is 55, Date is 24M, DSO is 84, Axle A, Trans 4...

Vehicle warranty Number is 4W67G520630

I have an oportunity to trade for this old Rauder, CHEEP!

But the person storing it wants it gone right now...

I am hoping it is an S55...(please, tell me it is!)

That is a 1964 2-Door S55 Hardtop with the 406 6BBL (3x2) High Perf.

63C = 2-Door "S55" Fastback hardtop
JM = Two-tone Sultana White with Carnival Red lower
55 = Red Trim Interior
24M = Built December 24th, 1963 (Merry Christmas!)
33 = DSO Cleveland
A = Posi, 3:00 EquaLock diff.
4 = Automatic Trans.

I agree with John's decoding, however, there are some problems with this car. All of the codes except for the VIN checkout as a 1963 Marauder S-55 with a 390 engine (automatic and 3.00:1 were standard). The real problems start when you read the VIN, 4W67G...... 4 is for 1964 not 1963. 67 is a 1963 Monterey S-55 (breezeway not Marauder) and is not listed for 1964. And finally the G is a 406 6V code, but was not offered in 1964 and was never offered with an automatic transmission. This car better be real cheap, 'cause the numbers just don't add up.

Kirk, with a late december build date, couldn't it be considered a 64?

As for the other oddities you mentioned, it wouldn't be the first time I've seen odd things roll out the door when dealing with end-of-run type stuff. If they were out of manuals, it is conceivable this car actually got an automatic. etc, etc..

Depending on how Cheap the trade is and the shape of the body, I'd do it!

Never know if you've uncovered that rare 1-off combination type build.

Please be sure to take a bunch of pictures to post here. We'll help as best we can.

Cheers!

John

OK, I have pics...two things I noticed right away is that the numbers were not quoted to me correctly over the phone ...
Here are those pics...
This car is a Z-code, and clearly a 1964 Park Lane Marauder, and has the bucket seats and center consol with shifter still mated to a transmission. The engine is long gone, so I have no way of knowing about the 6V--I very seriously doubt it, and if it was a 6V-406--that would probly explain why the engine IS missing.

But, after seeing some photo's, and wondering about the 67 in the code, I bought the car anyway, cause it was so cheep, even at $3.00/gal for fuel, maybe(!) I can afford to make the trip out to Cali dragging a trailer.

secondly--I AM attempting to attach a picture of that plate, I hope this works...I cant seem resize them small enough to upload, and I really want to post the picture of this warranty plate--here goes nothing!

OH! ALSO I want to Thank You Guys very Much!!!:beer:
I just hope this is as fun for you, as it is for me.
I am very anxious to find out the right...

I didnt mention that I now have a road trip from Texas to Cali to go fetch her home...at $3.00/gallon for fuel.--Dang!

Looks like a heck of a project. I LOVE the way the sixties dash gauges, speedo, etc look. It's gonna be awesome to behold when you get finished with it.

WTF??? Did I buy an old Rauder that has a door, and some S-55 stuff, transplanted from a S-55 Monteray???

At $50 you wont hear me complain! But my descision to drive to Cali would be changed, I wont spend that much on a car that doesnt have the pedigree that I am seeking. The price of gas is :censor: ...

My intention was to take the seats and consol, and what other S-55 trim items that wouyld fit my 63, and entirely part the rest of the 1964 out...for sale cheap to other 1964 marauder owners!

That includes the solid floor pans and the fenders, glass, trim, and the quarters.

UNLESS someone makes me an offer? I would sell cheap, minus the S-55 equipment.

I would still like to ID this car, I am very curious!:help:

I just re read this WHOLE THREAD, and I apologise for being a stooge...:lol:

I screwed up, well--er, John helped some :beer: ...Kirk is scratching his head going, "WTF???That aint right!":rolleyes:

Guys, please, look at that warranty tag Picture...again, for me please...

Please, look at the picture, and decode this Marauder again.
I believe this Big Lady should be restored...I am currently parting them out for the parts that I want for my 1963...I have no intention of saving another.
Sooooooooo,
I am considering giving the sale of this car to a deserving friend of mine, and he would like to know all that he can, about what he has gotton himself into...

Thanks again!

63C = 2-Door Hardtop Fastback (Bucket Seats)
JM = Polar White over Carnival Red
55 = Red and Red for interior trim
24M = Still December 24th!
84 = Home Office Reserve. I'm guessing this car was made for someone at Mercury specifically. Enough reason to restore it right here.
A = 3:00 EquaLock Diff.
4 = Automatic Transmission.

VIN:
4 = 1964
W = Wayne Assembly plant
67 = 2-Door Hardtop Fastback
Z = 8-Cylinder 390 Cubic Inch (4-barrel) FE motor
520630 = 20,530th car to roll off the line. May have been one of the last too by the date code.

I still say it is a keeper, even for the parts. Hell, the front grill is worth the $50 alone on eBay.

Cheers!

After I screwed the numbers up for you the first time, I figured the picture would be the ticket...

Those pictures frightened my friend who is not real knowledgeable about cars, he didnt realise that I intended to completly strip, and repaint this car...

Thanks again!

Lots of people must read this forum--most excellent!

I have been hammered with messages to sell the car, and/or the parts from it.

I think that is absolutly fantastic there is interest for these old 'Rauders, and I hope that interest is for all vintage Marauders, and not just for this particular Marauder...But you guys will have to wait and let me get it home and evaluate what I have...

I will make a post here for at least a week before I offer it anywhere else, If--BIG If--I decide to sell.

Thanks to you all!:D
