View Full Version : Gods head Badges (again)

Okay, I have posted this before. Being out of work has caused a bit of a problem. My issue is currently I cannot afford put up the money needed to get this started, then not be able to re-coup it. I have found a patternmaker to make the molds, and a foundry to do the casting, polishing, and clear powercoating. I think, depending on how many are still interested, the cost should be in the $50-60/pr. range inculding shipping, and a donation to this site.

To recap, what I want to make are front and rear emblems using the center cap god's head as a pattern, and having it enlarged to the same size as the emblems.

What I need to know is who wants 'em?

this sounds like a good idea,I'd like to see a prototype before I commit $$

It was mentioned here before of maybe doing one like the 90's Cougar emblems with the "wire frame" God head. I kinda like that...

For $50-60 per pair, I'm very interested also, but like cyclone, I'd have to see one first...

Looking...Your concept and effort on this is good stuff, thank you. Front and back medallions are neat ideas, and are appealing to those sympathetic to the godshead logo. Right now, I favor no front or back medallion on my MM, I want to remove them both. But, I still want to identify my MMs heritage too.

Your godshead concept has a challenger, a fender badge resurrection that many of us real old guys are sympathetic towards too. Right now, we have 3M like decals available, but they may grow into something more physical, and permanent too.

Maybe you should consider doing a poll on this, before any dollars are invested? Just my humble suggestion?

I would love the 64 fender badges if someone that has a set will make repo's. This car should have come with them IMHO.

As far as the God's head.......count me in for a pair too.

looking97233
04-17-2003, 07:14 PM
RF- no actually the front badge is flat on the back, the rear is concave to fit the deck lid. I will be using the origionals for the molds to get the right shape.

schuvwj
04-17-2003, 07:21 PM
Yes I would like one for the front grill but since I added the rear factory spoiler I think having no badges in the rear looks better. Going to talk to my local body shop this week to see if he can remove the rear badge and fill or plug the holes to see how it looks.

Count me in for one on the front!

LincMercLover
04-17-2003, 07:43 PM
Is the photo of the one on the car a work PS? The badge looks a little big to me, is the only reason I ask... But yah, I like the design! Count me in (if it's a wee bit smaller...)!

looking97233
04-17-2003, 10:38 PM
LML- yes it is a computer generated concept. I have not made them yet.

They will be the exact same size as the OE badge, except they will be cast aluminum(not plastic), polished and powercoated clear. I am just trying to find out how many people want them, so I know how many to have made.

Beautiful work, and I appreciate your attention to quality craftsmanship; however, I am going for anonymous badging on this car (blacked-out front badge; removal of rear badge due to spoiler)--does anyone know if the rear badge, once removed, does in fact have holes which need to be filled and painted? schuvwj, have you verified that holes are present once the rear badge is removed? Thanks.

martyo
04-18-2003, 02:57 AM
Two 1/8" holes under rear badge, located at 3 and 9 o'clock. The badge is easily removed by carefully sliding a plastic squeegee (sp??) underneath. Do this sooner rather than later. The badges is held on with 3M tape which tends to get pretty hard with age and exposure to sunlight. I did mine about a week after I got the car and the badge popped was "Gone in 60 Seconds."

Okay, I have a set of OE emblems on order for the modeler to use as a base mold to get the size, back shape, and mounting stud positions correct. Parts guy said it would take a week.

Second, a few people have talked about wanting the blacked out look on thier car. Would anybody be interested in having the front and back emblems powder coated black instead of polished and clear?

BTW, I did obtain a pair of Red, "4.6 High Performance" emblems.
There was a lot of comments that they may appear too big, but I think they may look good on the front quarters, against the silver birch paint.
I won't know until I get the car. I may lean to the "Keep'em Guessin Federal Look".

Yes, TAF, MartyO is a very serious man when it comes to the Mercury Marauder. Trust me on this, k?

In my CPD police academy training years ago, I was trained to shoot a handgun. Trained to shoot at the center of mass of my target, and trained to be deadly accurate. I did well. If called upon to defend myself or another today, all I know how to do, is shoot to the center of mass. In 27 years, I never "winged" anyone.

However, as skilled as I am in the need for self-defense with a handgun in a free society, I was never schooled in the effectivness, or, deadly precisice accuracy of...Ink.

Be it a BIC Click, your favorite Parker, any InkJet color printer, or, even a Xerox 6300 Fax Centre printing out your newest misery, INK KILLS.

Never before, have I seen, or, appreciated, such deadly force. The power of ink is understated and MartyO has shown me his stuff. His pen is the only sword anyone needs today, and in the hands of a Master, it's the most deadliest of weapons I have ever held in my my hand. I know this because I'm divorced, need I say more? There ought to be a law against ink. But, until there is, MartyO knows how to weild ink.

Now...About that MM right hand drive issue RF mentioned (and shame on you too, RF!). I think it's real. Yup, right hand drive MMs for export, heard strong stuff about design papers, but I shouldn't say more here, k?

MartyO's fender badges for the MM...way too cool, can't wait.

I took the sticker that came in the box with the leather jacket and cut the godshead logo out using my wife's circle cutting tool she uses for scrapbooking and fit it right over the top of that ugly merc. rake. It looks pretty good. ( At least better than the rake)

First of all, forget having to get a circle cutting tool or any of that. If your WIFE has one, great. If not, just carefully use scissors and cut out the center gods head from the sticker you received when you got your leather jacket. ( It was a separate circular sticker that had "Mercury Marauder" around the gods head), It came in the box along with the merchandise brochure. Just cut along the very outer silver edge of the god' head. As you can see if you look carefully there will be a little "crinkling" of the sticker on the wheel after you apply it because the merc. logo on the wheel isn't perfectly flat. I still think it looks better than the original "rake".

No need to be sorry.

This is what I envisioned, and hopefully will soon come to be real. (If the dealer can ever find the right badge)

These front and rear badges are one of the best things I have ever spent my money on. They are totally unique and raise many a wonders! They separate me from many of people! They are awesome....

Where did you put the "rear" badge? I have one on the steering wheel and it looks great, but I am interested to know where people are putting badges in other spots.

Thanks,

I could be persuaded to buy these badges for the right price and if someone could convince me that I can attach them w/o ruining something.

I'm kinda ham-handed with the tools, ya know . . ..

I'm going to post a how-to in the garage on the whole process. I personaly did not do the dremil work, but all in all not to hard. Hardest part is taking perfectly good emblems off your car.

Okay again. I am the guy who is trying to have these cast. I am STILL WAITING.... for the OE emblems that I ordered what, almost two months ago. I need them to make the models to cast the new badges from. Untill I get the OE badges this will be on hold. Anybody talking about having GOd's head badges is talking about making them from the existing badge with a center cap cut into the middle. To re-cap I am trying to have a God's head badge made in cast aluminum, polished and clear coated.Sorry for the delays and confusion.

For a pic, look here:

I do like it. Sets the God's head apart. Think I can paint the rear badge without pulling it off the car (again)? Anyone with steady hands want to come paint my badges for me?

I was thinking of doing the center caps on the rims too, but my bro talked me out of it. what do you guys think? should i leave the center caps all crome or paint the backround like i did the grille badge(or would that be overdoing it)?

The paint would probably chip of the center caps. I would leave them stock. IMHO.

Somehow I think we have different versions of the 2003 MM. I checked 'cause I couldn't trust my memory - I have Mercury wing logos both in the front grill and on the rear trunk lid.
Whats up with that?

You are not 'losing it'....ALL the (production) MM's came with the "waterfall" logos, or "wings" as you call them.

All us made these, or had someone make them for us. I think there may even be a FAQ by now. If not, there should be. Type "gods head badges" and prepare to read for days....there are pics in the gallery as well.

Actually if you are painting backgrounds, the traditional Mercury logo Godshead background was red.

LOOKING,

I would be very interested in a pair of powdercoated black, front and back god heads. Don't get me wrong, I'd still buy them if they only came in chrome, but the blacked-out look is much cooler. Just tell me where to send the check.

Looking97233 how do I get a set for the front and rear?
Thanks!

I'm definitely in.

Seems a lot of others are as well now. Any updates on when/if they'll be available? I'm willing to pay in advance if that will help get things moving.

Due to the overflow of requests for this, and the inability to produce the product at this time, I'm going to close down this thread to save space and confusion. Looking will start a new thread when he is able to start production again.
