I will be attending and racing in this weekends Fun Ford Weekend Spring Break Shootout. I also have a request in for fees to rent the track for MV IV for Nov 9th from 6-10 PM exclusively for our Marauders. I spoke with staff there and should hear what the cost will be this week as well as meet them at the track on Saturday. Additionally, I was informed by the track of a Holiday Inn Select (ICF) that is close to the track and has great group rates as well as a banquet room with restaurant. I will be inquiring on group rate room costs from them as well. The only thing it is not close to the attractions and does not have shuttle buses. Some of you Orlando guys may have a better solution. I really need your assistance.

I will be staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites (ICF) in Orlando, close to Orlando Speedway on Friday and Saturday nights (Mar 3-4). I would like to meet with any members of the group both SSM (Orlando guys in particular) and potential vendors (here on MM.net). We need to further discuss the plan and assistance required for additional events (Old Towne Cruise) so we can make MV IV hosted by SSM the best ever. I really need to get this information all together to write a detailed proposal to Logan ASAP.

We can meet at my room, a local restaurant, bar or wherever in the evening on Saturday night for some drinks, food, MV IV and overall Marauder stuff. Chime in here guys. Let's get this rolling. You can reach me here or via my cell phone 239-281-5181.

Thanks Javier and Rick. Looking forward to seeing you both. I will have some ideas on paper to give everyone who I can meet up with as well as some direction for additional items to explore. I know Eggie said he would be there as well.

Probably Saturday evening after the days events. Won't know until I meet with everyone at the track to see where we want to go.

Got a call from the Orlando track today. For four hours they want $5000.00 plus expenses for 6 people, rescue truck & 2 personnel as well as insurance to run side by side. Too much money.

If we get a hotel location on the west side of Orlando, we could still hit Old Towne for a cruise night, have shuttle buses to the attractions and I will inquire about us getting Bradenton Motorsport Dragway for a Marauder night. It is less than a two hour drive from the Disney area to Bradenton. Will work on this and let everyone know.

The entire week for Bradenton we are lookng at is out. They have a National Bracket racing event the entire week of November 6th. Only choices left is Gainesville or a number of 1/8th mile tracks.

Tom, A lot of the local guys who run like Bradenton a lot as you know. There is also a track in Lakeland, less than an hour from Orlando on 4. I don't know any thing about it but have been told there is one. Dennis

Yes, if you could find out how much they would charge us for renting the track from 6-10 PM for our Marauder group on November 9th. If would give us addtional options. Thanks.

Y'all know they have a road race course at Gainesville also, right?

And that's where Frank Hawley's reaction time clinic is based, too.

Gainesville is a great track. No doubt with their overall capabilities, it could serve us well for MV IV.

Tom,
Here's my suggestion for a hotel again. The Omni @ Championsgate: Pro golf courses; killer water park on site for the young and the young at heart; nice banquet facilities; huge parking areas; 6 miles from the attraction, expressway(FL417) and Old Towne exits; beautiful rooms; and most of all - ease of approach from North, South and West. It is 8 miles East of the conjunction of I-4 and 27. No Mickey hassles and no congestion.

From their website:

If you’re ready to experience true, yet sensible luxury, you’ve come to the right place. The Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate offers a 15-acre playground full of virtually limitless leisure activities. Sharpen your game on the Champions 9-par-3 golf experience, play 36 holes of world-class golf on two distinctive Greg Norman designed golf courses or brush up your skills at the nearby world headquarters of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy. Ready to relax? Indulge in treatments with a European sensibility at our unparalleled spa, ride our 850-foot lazy river or simply escape to a private cabana. Incomparable service and amenities and unsurpassed golf make this is a dream destination for both leisure and business travelers.

If you'd like me to find info on costs (group rates) and availability, PM or call me and I'll get on it! All others, please check it out and consider parking your car at a hotel near Celebration or Kissimmee or LBV.

OK, at this point it is $1000 for up to 5 cars, extra cars are 200 each.
Additional charge for lights, since we want the track at night.
They are tied up with Gatornationals details right now, but they promised an email with full info and will look into a special deal for us.
I told them to expect 10-30 cars but of course they want a solid figure.
The lady I talked to seemed familiar with our group, have y'all had an event there in the past?

That's true, it is a scoot from the land of Mickey, but there are some cool things to do around Gainesville, the Don Garlits museum is fairly close by, and Silver Springs in Ocala is a very nice attraction. Lots of hotels in the Gainesville/Ocala area too. Not far from I-75, and a short distance from the end of the FL Turnpike.
I'm assuming we need to base our decisions around a reasonably priced 1/4 mile dragstrip that's available, is that a fair statement?
Just trying to help...

IF I remember correctly, there was a poll that people were ok with a MV with out a 1/4 mile day. Also I dont feel we should make people drive accros the state for different events. But, I would still like to do a drag strip day, have you goten with the pervious MV host and checked out the fees, donations, and other money collected?

The reason she is familiar with us is because Dennis Reinhart already rented that track for us last September for a get together we had; and it is a great track, since it is in November why not race in the daytime to reduce the cost???. Dennis is a contact for that track since he has done this before for our club.

That sounds inviting. They would have to work out a good deal for us though, as $200.00 per extra car is steep. We may have up to 40 cars racing so it would be expensive. We could also if necessary work out the drag day on Friday day and do the Old Towne cruise Thursday night as well. We could all caravan up to the track Friday morning after a group breakfast. Familys could spend the day at the water park or whatever. Might work out better for a package deal. Keep us posted. Thanks.

Gates open at 7 Am on Saturday, time trials 9-11:30 AM, first round qualifying at 12 PM. Pretty much the same on Sunday with showdown eliminations starting at 11 AM.

Had a great time (well amost*) at FFW. Got to meet with Rick, Javier and Mayra, Dennis and Penny, Eggie, Ron, Lidio and a couple of other guys (sorry don't remember your names.) Javier, Eggie and myself discussed some additional ideas for MV IV and some logisitics based on what Jake gave us on a hotel and what Jim is working on for Gaineville. I will post this once I get it all together.

*well amost - had a great time racing, only made three passes. First pass I broke out of my time with a 12.4 et for a Street Stang 12.5 class, but it was only a test and tune. I had installed nitrous this past week with a 25 shot to help cool the charge, but it was so cool overnight the bottle was cold all morning and had zero pressure (No bottle warmer - this is Florida, right). Oh well.....I qualified with a 12.6 run for the event and let off the accelerator about the 1200 foot mark not wanting to go under. But during the burnout (and it was a good one - thanks Rick for videotaping it) I felt I may have seriuously weakened the limited slip beyond its capacity. The third and final run my suspicions were correct, a one-legger, 2.099 sixty foot with a 13.2 et, but a high 112.48 MPH... Limited slip is toast:flamer:. The new rear end and axle group buy couldn't come soon enough...New Eaton and 31 splines and more $$$, here we go. Like I have always said, that's drag racing.

Didn't stay for the eliminations due to the one-legger, would have got smoked the first round. Good seeing everyone there.:D

The track is Northeast of Gainesville, not really anywhere near the town itself.
