View Full Version : S/C Marauders As Daily Drivers?

I was just curious on how dependable a S/C Marauder would be as a daily driver. I have asked a few people but I would like to get some more opinions. Anyone have any problems with their S/C Marauder as a daily driver. Was also wondering if the blower could keep up with all the miles driven on the cars. Any and all opinions would be appreciated. If this question has been asked B4 I appologize in advance.

Rob, speaking in regards to the kit I own, it can be a daily driver, the internal bypass system is very efficient and you can drive all the day long on the vacuum side of the gauge without stressing the motor at all.

Having said that, I would try to find a way to reduce the overall miles and have a beater car for the daily grind, that way the time spent driving the S/C MM is truly special.

My car is my daily driver. Even though I work from home, I still put miles on it. In the first year, I've put 8000 supercharged miles on it, 5000 of them with the Kooks and the lower pulley. Not a single problem to report.

Daily driver here, and since it's such a big engine you can stay on the vacuum side of things as Smokie said!

Unless you drive daily like your at the drag strip every other weekend, I think an s/c'ed car that is maintained with shorter fluid change intervals and has a good tune is going to be as reliable as you make it. A blower itself is not going to beat an engine, you are.

Your driving habits are going to dictate how long the other driveline components are going to last too. Things will wear a lot quicker the more you push them just because you can (brakes, transmission, limited slip, etc.), but there's upgrade options for them too.

I drive probably 95% of the time in vacuum on the street, but for that other 5% - whoa baby. I've also driven thousands of highway miles so far with the blower and haven't thought twice about it. The cruise control definitely loves the added power too. I have yet to see it pop out of overdrive going up a hill at speed. It's an awesome feeling when the car automatically dips into a couple pounds of boost to climb a hill and not loose a mph. Too cool.

Basically what was said before^^^ there. I have had mine running for about a year now. Installed the end of April '05. I've put 6k supercharged milesw so far. I drive it every day as long as it is dry outside. I have fun with her but I rarely beat on her. I've run a few 1/4 mile runs last summer to see what times I would post. I went again later in the summer and did not race. The point is, my Trilogy hit has had absolutely zero problems. Fluids get changed regularly and the car is driven not beaten. Good luck...

No problems at all as a daily driver. You will use a little more gas . No issues to report.

I have driven mine as a daily driver for 26K+ miles. 11K with the blower and numerous times at the track. I do change my oil often with Mobil 1 every 2500 Miles and sometimes more often if I have been to the track or more recently on the dyno, like yesterday for 12 pulls. An awesome daily drive in my opinion even as a supercharged car. No problems.

Mine is a daily driver here in MN. I doubt you would want to use yours as a daily driver in FL weather :nono:

Just playing with you.

I have 5000 s/c miles on mine, other have over 20,000. I have no problems to report other than excessive rear tire wear.

I have heard nothing but good things on this board about s/c for daily driving of MMs, as long as you go light on the gas pedal. After mine is out of extended warranty in a few years, look out!

No problem at all here. I have put about 12,000 superchared miles on mine. You need to talk to BillyGman. I think he has put about 40,000 miles on his after supercharging.

I wana know how you guys get extended warrantes with running a s?c ?
That was the first thing I had to cancel when I s/c'ed mine.

Talk to Lotusstv, too. I believe that he has more miles the BillyGMan.

I believe that when you work for a dealer, there might be some leeway. I know that there is a thread around here somewhere that has a Trilogy MM getting a motor because of a bad valve.

Warranty?

Wut warranty.

I do not drive my MM everyday. But I would. One better: I am so confident in this set up, I load the MM up with Lisa and the kids and go for extended road trips. I have been all over the place with this Marauder and she has never let me down.

I'm on the road 4 days, then im home 4 days so If you caculate that, the MM is driven only 6 months of the year. NOW, I've been home on sick leave and as of 01/27 and been using the MM daily with no problem.

Looks like we have a winner in the most miles on a Trilogy contest.

Jim Geary. Why do you have to cancel your extended warranty?? I have one with mine and am planning on not cancelling it. The power-train is probably out of warranty, but what about the gazillion other things that are not, and more likely to need to be attended to?? Like my passenger heated switch that was replaced under warranty with the supercharger on the car. I don't think this is a problem. I have not advertised that it is supercharged but even so that should not be a problem....

40,000 miles & lots of passes down the strip. only problem has been (not counting the blown motor-my fault) is a howl in the differential that has now turned up.

Sounds like this valve was destined to go bad regardless of the supercharger. Bad material to begin with.

Although its obvious that supercharging a motor will highlight any inherent weaknesses already present, its more about driving style that dictates long term reliability. Keep power levels sane, and don't beat the crap out of it, and a SC Marauder can last a long long time as a daily driver. The OEM drivetrain has plenty of capacity to handle more power just fine as long as power levels are within reason. Even with some accelerated wear and tear from a blower, the shortening of any lifespan will be irelevant as long as you run the base kit (of your choice).

I don't know about the other S/C kits but the Trilogy kit is non-existant until you ask for boost. My wife thinks I have a magic key that turns if off when she drives. I honestly think my car spends less time under stress now that is did before the kit install. Dennis

Gotta agree with sweetair here. A good extended warranty company will cover anything NOT affected by supercharger use. That is obviously up for debate, but find a good mechanic, who can speak the lingo to the warranty rep, and generally speaking, as long at the blower itself cannot be proven as a contributing factor in breakage, the warranty should cover it.

Lest ye forget, I had my VorTech put on at just about the 60k mark...after running it from 30k to 60k with a DiabloSport chip on it...RoadPig 1 is a daily driver and also see's work duty...so sometimes it gets a good romp up the tachometer...I have no complaints at all...:burnout:
