FordChip says: "The hotter the engine runs, the more efficient it is. This assumes that you are not knock constrained like on a blown engine. So, if your engine is naturally aspirated, and it is not knock constrained, then you want to keep the hotter thermostat. If you live in a warm climate, like Texas, then you can probably benefit from a colder thermostat, and thus more spark. The hot air in these type of climates tend to make an engine more likely to knock so a colder 'stat helps in these special situations."
Does this not conflict with what Dennis implies when he offers the plugs and stat kit? And most people seem to be installing them?

Don , I may be wrong here and someone can correct me but it is my belief that a hotter engine can burn more efficiently with less emissions but a slightly colder one can make more power because the fuel charge is slightly cooler as a result.
I also believe that the real reason for a colder set of plugs and slightly cooler thermostat is a safe guard against detonation. Most after market chip vendors agressively crank up the spark tables and the car will make more power when used with a higher octane fuel. Dennis chip wants 93 octane to make more power. Putting 91 octane in it with the advanced timing could lead to detonation under the right conditions. Colder plugs and cooler stat helps prevent it. Prolonged detonation will kill a 4.6 liter engine pretty fast as the pistons can not take that kind of abuse. As it turns out the Denso plugs while more expensive also helps to make alittle more power.
Anyone else ?

Ditto what Wolfe says...
The Denso plugs developed 4.1 HP and 3.3 ft-lb TQ, and brought my AFR down to 13.47, a critical move back then. All this from one set of spark plugs, go figure. Worth the coin? I think so...IMHO.
