Hey Guy/Gals.....

I am getting ready to move up to the 4:10 gears. I am not much of a hands on car guy so I was wondering..... when I buy the gears, do they come with everything needed to install, or do I have to buy anything else to go with them?

I just want to be alble to bring a complete kit to my local performace shop with everything ready to go.

Thanks in advance for your help

You can buy an install kit seperately.
The place I took it to did not need it though, they had it all in stock.

You would need 3 bottles of synthetic 75-140 fluid, 1 to 2 bottles of friction modifier, and just to play it safe, the inner pinion bearing.

Can't you buy the Ford Racing Gears and get everything as a kit?

There is a rather inexpensive installation kit that has shims and a crush collar. Plus you will need the gear fluid. I used a Nascar endorsed product made by 76 that is synthetic and has a friction modifier already in it. I used the Ford Friction modifier anyways to play it safe. Be sure you pick up a bottle of lock-tight.
It may also be wise to pick up a new Pinion seal and like was said before in a previous thread, a new set of Driveshaft U-joint retainer bolts.
When you test drive the car, Bring it up to about 45mph then let it coast, Listen for a whine. Then lightly get on the gas and listen again for a whine.
If you dont hear anything then the installation is a success and be sure to take it easy on the car for the first 500 miles so the gears can break in.

In addition to the FRP 4.10's I bought red locktite, pinion seal, pinion bearing, carrier bearings (2), and 3 qts of Redline fluid. The crush collar comes with the gears. I also bought a case of beer to to consumed by the installer after a sucessful install.
