Was wondering the feasibility and desirability of replacing my MM 4.6 with a 5.4 and fitting a Triology blower on top of that? Doable? Or am I crazy?

Your Crazy!:) .
You are looking at major height issues.
Unless you want to ride around with a 3 foot tall hood scoop or perhaps no hood at all, then go for it!
Besides if you plant a 5.4 in a Marauder, May as well go for a lightning Engine. It already has the blower on it.

This was a thread of sarcasm that I made a call back to.
Someone from the Grand Prix Messageboard swore up and down that his mother had a Factory White Marauder. We called it the top secret project from Ford.

Don't worry about the scoop. Ford put a 427 high rise engine in a Fairlane with a small scoop. Lightning engine, trans, computer and wire harness would be the way to go. Might have to use the Lightning rear end too. Lots of work.

You're right, my friend. Someone should. ;)

I bet the real issue is the height of the front suspension relative to the bottom of the engine. Hell, they had 429's in Mustangs.

Here is a 5.4 in a stang this is a pic of a super stallion Mustang that John Colletti had built for himself by SVE. If you notice the shock towers have been removed so this is one big mother but I'm sure if it fit in here its possible in a Marauder. Do a google search on the Mustang Super Stallion and you'll find some articles on what all was involved in this project but it is one sweet ride. Also has a switched supercharger so you can turn it on and off and has all kinds of electronics and sensors so it can run alcohol without adjusting anything, does it all automatically. :D

Here is a pic of the front suspension looks as if its just lower not a strut spring style combo either. Here is the article I first read about it when it first came out.

Here is another quick pic for oogling minds like myself. Looks like it would only require a minor hood raising if any at all.

Go for it sMarty

Although I don't know why you'd go pushrod, a DOHC "418" stroker with twin turbos would beat it.........

2000 Mustang Cobra Rs came with 5.4s. Removing the strut towers isn't necessary. People put Lightning engines in Mustangs too. Nothing new. Sorry for going off topic.

jakdad - Don't worry about the scoop. Ford put a 427 high rise engine in a Fairlane with a small scoop.
The teardrop scoop of the Thunderbolt wasn't what I would consider SMALL. It covered quite a bit of hood real estate and was 3-4" tall.

No big deal. Have you looked at the after market scoops they're putting on these cars now? 3.5" is nothing. Anything is possible with the know how and resources.
I'm familiar with the Thunderbolt, I was there. Didn't think it had all that large of a scoop back then. The 5.4 Marauder with the Lightning engine is doable if someone wants to put the time and money into it. Why not let a hot rodder do it first instead of waiting on the factory. Anybody can buy a factory hot rod.

Understand, however, you were the one that indicated small. And Yes I've seen some of the now-a-days eXtreme scoops (including 16" cowls).

As far as being there ... Still have a Detroit Locker outta one (bought it in '66); it's current home is a '65 2+2 Mustang.

for 20k you could have whatever you want under your hood. A 5.4 would require a big hood regardless of charged or not. The 5.4 DOHC, basically a gt engine , would be ****ing sweet. Alternatives include tubro or twin turbo or a forged motor with multi stage nitrous might be fun. Theres always a roots type SC as well. with that much cash the sky's the limit. Best of luck.

What are your goals?

For less than 20 you could put a twin turbo cobra motor pushing 800 + hp.

Much less modification.

But a 5.4 would be cool!

Here's a better pic of the "bubble" scoop as it came on the 427 cars. I guess the scoops look large to some but notice how small the hood is.
