is that true??
can i just put this pan on and run an extra quart with the a new stock filter and not change the pickup??

Contact Dennis Reinhart and get the Art Carr deep pan. Straight swap. Extra quart, drain plug, no fuss, no muss.

The advice you have been given is slightly off the mark, none of that is true on the 4R70(75)W tranny.
I have the Ford Racing pan, # M-7195-4R, page 133 of the '06 catalogue and it's not really much different from the Art Carr version. A few extra cooling fins on the outside, and a drain plug. It holds two extra quarts of tranny fluid, but it does not require a different pick-up tube, filter, or gasket. BTW, though it hangs lower under the car, it's still not the lowest point to the ground.
I just bought a MAC pan, 3 extra qts, fins, drain plug. $149.
Note, you will need a Long 6mm allen wrench.

black_03, if I read this post correctly, and also the one you linked to, the picture in that link is of the plain old pan that comes with the car. The one they are referring to in the text is the same one I told you about in your other thread on this same subject. Ford p/n F8UZ-7A194-AA...same as the pan on the car, but with a drain plug installed by the factory. It isn't any deeper and doesn't require a different filter.
*EDIT* OK, I read it again and Randy Stinchcomb says it holds an extra qt...that may be...I didn't notice mine being any deeper than the original one, but an extra qt would only require a fraction of an inch more depth, anyway.

That steel pan from the MF site looks like an original 4R70W tranny pan, can't see where the extra quart hides. I've got an OEM in the garage, I'll measure it. BTW...Why new bolts?
BTW...Why new bolts?
My new one is a thicker aluminum as opposed to the stamped steel. It is couple of inches deeper also. There may be issues with the old bolts fitting the new pan (head clearance and getting a socket over it?) I did not check the old bolts for fit, I just used the new ones as the lip of the pan is thicker also.

i just talked to my local ford dealer, he told me its for econline vans 98-04 fleet stlye, and its for 4r70w and 4r75w, but his screen only shows a generic picture, he did get the gausket it requires and says its a 20 bolt pan, and he doesnt know if it does have a drain plug... it sounds like the right part were talking about but he has limited info on it, so rf_overlord, this is what i want?
same pan, bolts right in, and has a drain plug?
he qouted me $78.32 plus tax, its that alright or cheaper somewhere else??
I thought mine was 14 bolts, so I would be careful of the 20 bolt one until you can verify it.

Um...the dealer said it's a 20-bolt pan? That's wrong...it's 14 bolts. Did you give him the correct part #? Assuming he just counted wrong, though, that's the pan you want: '98 to '04 Econoline fleet...you don't need a new gasket, the one on your car is multiple-reuse. As far as price, that's about right for retail. Try getting in touch with Ray (The Dealer)...he's a vendor here and may be able to do better on price.

Here's a genuine Marauder 4R70W tranny pan, thanks to RF Overboard. He's marked the best location for a drain plug too.

There are more pics of this pan in my gallery, but it looks just like the pic of the steel pan embedded in the MF thread you link us too. Not the Ford Racing pan, or, the Mac pan, but the pan they say holds another quart. I don't think so...
Sorry, I don't agree with that remark. My pan is 2.30" deep inside, from the lip. The other steel pan doesn't look any deeper, someone may be overfilling it? BTW, I count 14 bolts, how about y'all? And that stamping we cannot read very well says "pan is equipped with reusable gasket".
Anyway, my suggestion is to pull your pan, install a drain where RF points, add your gauge temp sensor, and save your money. If other folks are adding another quart to this style of pan, you're not getting any real bang for the buck here, 'cause no additional cooling is accomplished, as it is with the FRP/MAC deep aluminum/finned pans.
Just my .02C, carry on gents...
