View Full Version : Any reason why no hood liner?

Car I just bought has no hood liner. Any reasons why it would have been removed? What is it going to cost to replace? Go stock, or anything better?

Earlier threads on liners had mentioned carmotorsports.com. Their website does not list Marauder as choice, and some people mentioned buying there, but installing what they bought over the existing liner? Does that make any sense?

Thanks -

Wait till you open the trunk, there isn't one there either if it's all stock.:

CarMotorSports offers both a hood liner and trunk liner. The hood liner can be purchased as a kit to cover your existing liner or as a complete plug-n-play unit. The trunk liner comes complete. Call the number on their site and speak to Rich.

Hey, BigGuy...is your car an '03 or an '04? Not that it matters...they both should have a hood liner, although the '04s didn't have a light...

David,

These things get nasty when they get wet. Very cheap design from Ford.
As folks have said... you have two options... go OEM from Ford... your price will be as good as you can dicker... I want to say I got mine around $90.

Or you can get one from Car Motorsports.. and their complete one is an OEM liner covered with the Car Motorsports material. I am not sure what savings you would realize to buy the new liner from Ford and then the kit from Car and cover it yourself opposed to just buying the whole enchilada from Car. Something you will have to figure out based upon what prices you can negotiate.

Accident maybe?

If you plan on going with a s/c like the Trilogy, get the OEM hood liner for a 2003 MM. The 2004 one is very padded and the pulley (even the smaller ones)will eat through it in no time flat.

Mine is eating threw at the alt where the top bracket is..

Anyways Maybe they took out the supercharger before you bought it.:D .

Thanks for all the replies.
It's an '04.
No plans for S/C. As it is, I have to be light-footed on these twisty New England roads because of the Reinhart tune.
Accident unlikely cause, as all the front end VINs match the car VIN.
Will call carmotorsports.

Rub your finger along the seams of the hood and fender to check for rough edges...signs of repaint.....

Leave it off, underhood heat will melt the snow off.:D

David:confused:Call Rich @carmotorsports.com get # from the web site. Marauders are not listed but they many options for you. I installed a liner over mine and it looks great. Another option is to buy a completed kit. That is instead of lining you own, just replace it with a new one. You won't be disappointed..

I took out my liner - think it looked ugly. Like an old sponge that soaked up all the salt, water, and whatever else flew in there.

F.Y.I...Have to be careful when mixing the JLT kit and PHP spacer too, you're reducing hood clearance, and you may see some dagame to the stock liner.

BigGuyBigCar - Car I just bought has no hood liner. Any reasons why it would have been removed?
Other than it's an unsightly dust/dirt/road-debris/salt-dust/etc. collector ... No.

Have been insulation-less since a week after buying the car new ( 3+years) and have had no issues. *There may be some additional engine / air-intake growl due the small amount of sound absorption that the insulator does provide, but ..... NBD.

What is it going to cost to replace?
The co$t of the stock hood insulation ( part# 3W7Z-16738-AA (https://fordparts.com/cart/?pn=3W7Z-16738-AA+) ) is - $76.75 (wholesale) / $104.42 (retail)

Probably got dirty.
I would replace with the stock one.
If FMC didn't decontent it must be there for a good reason.

I had the same crap on mine and i sprayed it with the stuff that shines the engine bay and smells like cherries(i can't remember the name of it)and it made my liner look like brand new..
