i'm running superchips on my p71 with a K&N FIPK Gen II and it doesn't seem to shift when it should while running the performance program. any suggestions?

K&N has an FIPK for vics? Save up some money and visit a tuner, he'll tune it any way you'd like.

if i remember correctly, the FIPK mod #for the vic is 27-2544.
i have a programmer that will allow me to set my shift points. just don't know what would be optimum with my setup.

Couldn't hurt to play around, since SOHC engines aren't so much top end (They're more low end) I'd aim for a 5700 or 5800 RPM shift 1-2 and a 5700 shift 2-3. Try that out, it seems close to stock though. You can always change it later. Have fun...

1725.
when i get on the gas, it won't shift to 3rd til about 75mph and i'm getting there slow. once in 3rd it's like a rocket. almost got beat by my buddy's '96 neon

at WOT, I wouldnt expect the car to run into 3rd until around 75 anyway. You do realize that this is a tuner with adjustable shift points and pressure right? Are you running the 87 or 93 octane tune? Who did you buy the tuner from?

How does the car run whe not programmed? What kind of condition is this car in?

i run 93 in both my car and truck, always have. i usually throw a bottle of octane booster in every other tank. never let it run under half. car is in great shape. just under 40k mi.
i bought the tuner new, manual says that the performance program is set for best performance, but for an unmodified engine. i'm basically asking if the FIPK is throwing off the program. i had flowmaster cats installed and the mufflers completely removed also

I dont see how or why the FIPK would do anything to harm it. If anything, it would help things. Have you tried to detune the car back to stock and compare how it runs?

i figure i'll just fiddle with it. i just set the shift points from 2-3 and 3-4 to the minimum setting. traffic is too dense to open it up, but it's noticably different. i'll be able to get a better feeling on the expressway on my way to work tomorrow

SCT would have been better then you could updated the file with out having to send the tuner back to Super chips

Why is this entire thread even in my forum?

There is no reason to go with SCT to solve the issue at hand here. In fact, Superchips talks about aftermarket Air Intakes and Exhausts augmenting the performance of the SCMT when installed. So my guess is there are other issues arising here with the car. How many miles are we talking on the motor here? Sometimes the whole "Silk Purse/Sow's ear" concept comes into play.

there is no problem with the car. i'm just unhappy with the shift points set by the programmer and was looking for advice on a better setting

And this solves, what?

Well it allows any one to get a immediate, file correction and assistance with any issue they might have with the tune that is installed in the SCT flash device, and as I have said You do not have to send the tuner back as he does with the Superchips tunner.
