There is an unwritten law in Italy. It states that:

You are not allowed to have anyone in front of you. You must pass.

Also, Driving up on sidewalk is ok, in order to pass on the right (or even the left).

When passing on a two lane road, and another car is coming your way, keep the white line in the center of the road lined up with the center of you car, because the car you are passing will move right, and the car coming your way will move to his right, leaving lots of room for you as long as you stay on that white line.

The above is one of the reasons I would rather drive in France vice Italy. In France, they drive fast. In Italy, they drive fast and crazy.
Just paid for my brand new (leased) Renault Laguna II that I will pick up in Paris in mid May. Airline and car now paid. All I have to worry about now is enough money for motels, food and fuel. I may pop into Italy for a few days, but I doubt it as France is a lot cleaner. Also, a French buddy has a new Alfa- Romeo GT that I want to try out :D

Heaven is a place where:
The lovers are Italian
The cooks are French
The mechanics are German
The police are English
The government is run by the Swiss

Hell is a place where:
The lovers are Swiss
The cooks are English
The mechanics are French
The police are German
The government is run by the Italians
