Hope someone has some insight into this question.
I am going to purchase a supercharger in the near future and I noticed that on the ESP warranty website that there is a box that can be checked indicating if my car supercharged.
I want the extended warranty but I'm wondering if the S/C coverage option is only for factory installed superchargers or does it also cover bolt on aftermarket S/C's like the ones that are offered on this website.
Don't want to ask Ford and possibly alert them to an error that might have been made on there part that would work in my favor if warranty work should be needed by me after an after market S/C install.;)
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

That's it. Add a blower to the MM and the drivetrain portion of the ESP will likely be voided. Still would have warranty on climate control, power seats, power windows, stuff like that. If you have a good dealer, some drivetrain issues could also be covered. But blow an engine and you're on your own.

Carfixer told me that a blower will put a giant VOID stamp on any warranty. That also makes me wonder about the "grey area" on warranty issues. How can a product that does not involve the lubricated recriprocating parts on the engine actually void the warranty on those parts? I know it increases horsepower but so do cold-air intakes, filters, etc...

After all Carfixer works @ a dealer, but....I thought there was actually a law out there that prohibits a dealer from cancelling a warranty in full because of a modification. In the case of adding a blower, like I have done, the motor, drive train I'm sure is out of warranty. Other things, like window motors, heated seats, radio, cd player......etc, should not be affected. Just my .02

Just curious...Has anyone checked with some of the supporting vendors here like Jerry @ Trilogy or Dennis Reinhart? This would be a question I'm sure they would be happy to answer....Also, I have a good friend who owns a Ford dealership...I am going to contact him on this.

FWIW, I asked one of my service writers at my local ford dealer about making mods. His opinion was that most items short of supercharging would not cause me to have trouble getting warranty coverage.

Back to my original question.
If I am declaring that I have a supercharger and I am paying the extra money in warranty penalty for a supercharger, does it make a difference if my blower is factory or add on.

Yes, period. Look at the warranty paper work. A power adder, SC/Turbo/Nitrous will void at least the power train warranty if not factory installed, ie: a Mustang Cobra or Lighting. I've read of cases on the Focus forum where dealership service departments voided the ENTIRE warranty for having a chip.... When I mentioned chipping my vehicle to the assistant service manager at my selling dealer, she turned white....

When it's your money (selling you the ESP) the salesman will tell you anything to get his commission. When it comes to their money (replacing broken motors) they play hard ball. I've had advice about getting a re-flash with a stock chip before returning the car for warranty work. Also, apparently, rules change from dealer to dealer and DSO's. Some are friendly, some are not. Another thing, if you smoke one of these motors, there's gonna be a factory guy looking at it.
When it comes to power adders, if you can't afford to pay, don't play. ;)

Definitely void no matter what you pay. Got a friend with a Cobra and he had an audience with a Ford engineer for some issues he's troubleshooting. Conversation boiled down to my friend asking the engineer basically whats with all the SVT parts, events and such. Pretty much anything (different 'charger, track events, etc) Ford/SVT sponsors to foster the speed and image of the brand seems to void warranties.
The engineer had no good answer. . .

You are 100% correct. A dealer once told me that Ford MotorSports parts void the warranty.

Woa! Please check with me before quoting me.
Modifying your car will affect the warranty on your car. Will it void "any warranty"? No.
My opinion: If you want to play, you have to pay. If it broke because of what you did, don't ask someone else to pay for it.
Back to the original question:
I do belive it is for factory installed superchargers because Ford ESP doesn't warranty anything that wasn't installed on the car by Ford.
