View Full Version : Seat sensor?

I need help figuring this one out.
MM#1 will chime loudly if I start driving without having my belt buckled. The indicator on the dash will also blink. This is in line with every other Ford I've driven.
MM#2: the light will be on if I don't buckle up, but within a minute or so of driving, the light will go out. No chimes, no panic. Nothing. However, if there is a passenger in the passenger's seat and they are not buckled, I get the same reaction as MM#1 if I am not buckled.
I have no idea if MM#1's passenger's side will react the same way as MM#2.
I understand there might be some sensors to determine the presence of a person on a seat (and in some cases, how heavy in order to determine if it's an adult or not, for airbag deployment purposes). So what I'm really worried about is: if there is a problem detecting my presence on the seat, will that compromise my airbag activity in case of a collision?

Good question
My 04 MM with chime and show the seat belt light on the dash.
My 04 CVPI with show the seat belt light on the dash only.
I never did the chime disable proceedure on the CVPI.
Anyon know why there is a difference?

The audible warning has been disabled. It has to be done for each seat individually. Look in the owner's manual for instructions (they may also be posted around here somewhere).
Someone deactivated the warning chime in #2

When I bought my MM, I had no chimes , but my passenger side always chimed no matter who sat there. I just assumed that the previous owner had disabled it.
Just to be sure it worked and didnt have a malfunction in the sensor, I re-enabled the chimes and tested it out. I would try doing that on your MM#2 drivers side just to make sure it's sensors are working.

Interesting. Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into it tomorrow morning. I had no idea you could disable this warning.

Deactivating/activating the BeltMinder feature
The driver and front passenger BeltMinder are deactivated/activated independently. When deactivating/activating one seating position, do not buckle the other position as this will terminate the process.
Read steps 1 -4 thoroughly before proceeding with the deactivation/activation programming procedure.
The driver and front passenger BeltMinder features can be
deactivated/activated by performing the following procedure:
Before following the procedure, make sure that:
The parking brake is set
The gearshift is in P (Park) (automatic transmission)
The ignition switch is in the OFF position
The driver and front passenger safety belts are unbuckledTo reduce the risk of injury, do not deactivate/activate the Belt
Minder feature while driving the vehicle.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT
START THE ENGINE)
2. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (Approximately 1
minute)
Step 3 must be completed within 50 seconds after the safety belt warning light turns off.3. For the seating position being disabled, buckle then unbuckle the
safety belt 9 times, ending in the unbuckled state. (Step 3 must be
completed within 50 seconds after the safety belt warning light turns
off.)
After step 3, the restraint system warning light (airbag light) will be turned on for three seconds.4. Within 10 seconds of the light turning on, buckle then unbuckle the
safety belt.
This will disable the BeltMinder feature for that seating position if it is currently enabled. As confirmation, the restraint system warning light will flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds.
This will enable the BeltMinder feature for that seating position if it is currently disabled. As confirmation, the restraint system warning light will flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the light off, then followed by the restraint system warning light flashing 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.

Couldnt they put a simple switch in for this?I think the reason they made it so complicated is that they don't WANT people disabling the belt-minder. I'm surprised they even give you the option at all.
I always wear my seat belt, but there are times when I'm sitting in car (stationary) with the belt off and don't want that stupid chime nagging at me, so I disabled the belt minder for the driver's side.

Mine (bought used) has a delay in the driver's chime. Dash light is on once car is started, but the audible does not start until 30 sec later. I have no clue how it was done.

That is how the oem system works. My mother hates seat belts so I will not disable the chime so she has to use her belt!!

I agree. My wife doesn't like seat belts either and the chime makes her put it on.:D

Is this your own CVPI, or does it belong to the job?
If the later the chime may have been disabled before you got it.
