This had been an issue aince day one with MM owners. When driving the car slowly over a sprred bump ( for instance ) and especially at an angle, when one rear whell at a time goes over such a bump --- there is this " popping " sound. Many menbers made note of it when we first started this MMnet, yet I have never heard anyone come up with an answer / cure ........
Is it just my MM or are there still some that pop ?

Mine went away for awhile, but I've noticed recently again. I'm not concerned about it, until someone says that this is a problem. I only get it when backing up diag. over a curb or something like that.

I hear it when making a hard right turn into an elevated driveway, but only 1 out of 10 times, and maybe only when it's damp out? Haven't paid much attention to this, but will pay more now. Thanks for the head's up.

FourthHorseman has complained of this all along.
I have not heard it yet but will continue to listen for it.

"I hear it when making a hard right turn into an elevated driveway"
That's when I heard it also.

Hmmm could it be the airbag shifting slightly and then compressing at the wrong angle... I have a right turn entry driveway I will see if I can get my MM to make the noise....I really need to get my car on a rack and take a peek.

My dealer replaced my rear sway bar links and bushings but it failed to fix the problem. I haven't had time to get the car back into them, but I will in the next couple of weeks and will post on the results.
Sure is an annoying glitch.

do you have a elevated driveway? You'll need one to make the noise, at least I do. :scream:

This is body on frame construction, and when you're twisting her hard on a turn and elevating only one side of her nose, I would expect some groaning. You ought to her me get out of bed on a damp morning!

I had a 1974 Z28 (with a 350 300 hp engine, 400 trany, and a 3:73 rearend) that would pop and crack when I drove in a tight circle. The cause was the plates in the rearend were sticking when compensating for the outer wheel turning faster that the inner thus causing an occasional pop and cracking sound.
They gave me a little bottle of oil additive about 1 oz. which I added to the rear end and the noise went away for about 12,000 miles then I had to add it again!
My 2 cents.

I know the Marauder is a bit stiffer on the suspension by my 98 and 92 Grand Marquis never made that noise.

I'm not one tenth the mechanic that some of you folks are, but it really sounds like bushings to me. I'm going to try and get the service tech to look at the watts link, particularly where it mounts up on top of the differential. That's my guess as to where my popping is coming from.
(edit) I should note that on my car the noise soeems to be coming from near the center of the car, not near the right side.

Mabye at extreme compression/extension something is binding? Mabye the watts link? I haven't noticed it, although we have pretty good roads out here.

I think Sarge may be right on about the torsional loading of the chassis causing this. And I am with Fourth Horseman.....I would also bet on the watts link. Either mounting or bushings.
But of course I could be wrong.
I bet this will get tracked down soon. There are several reports of it.
