View Full Version : Check Your Trunk Wiring!

Doing install of Trilogy 117 and found a problem.
The spare tire installed on the trunk shelf has worn completely through 3 wires to the fuel tank sensor wiring harness. Bare conductors!
In order to check you need to remove the spare (donut in my case) and pull back the trunk liner. Wonder if the TSP for the fuel gauge issue is actually the harness being grounded at this point.
BTW my car only has 22k miles on it and the spare has never been moved.:mad2:

And check your spare tire pressure while you are back there!

A-HA! That's where the sensor is. The dolts at the dealership hooked mine up backwards. I start a full tank with the Low Fuel light on. Very annoying.

Thanks - :D It's a time to reinforce the wire insulation when the spare is removed.

No problem at 48K and I have a full spare.

Solved this problem about a 100K miles age. Removed the spare and never put it back. Big waste of space and weight anyway.

If it wasn't for the silly mileage I do on a daily basis and the fact my entire family is always in the car with me, I'd do the same thing.

I went to buy a bigger bike for my 4 year old this past Sunday. I was --> <-- this close to freaking throwing that spare tire straight into the field by the parking lot at the store, trying to fit the bike into what I once thought was a cavernous trunk. Sadly, in comparison last summer, I had no difficulty sticking a brand new 21 speed adult bike into the back of my WS6 with the rear seats folded down. :(

(I finally did manage to get the handlebar on the kid's bike tucked up between the tire and the shelf enough to get the front wheel cleared from the trunk lid. Maybe Petrograde was onto something after all...)
