View Full Version : Good Tank of Gas = Louder Exhaust??

Maybe someone else has noticed this, I usually fill up with 93 at a Hess Station near my work and the car runs great as it always has.
Just last week I filled up with 93 at a Sunoco near my house and it seems that the car runs much stronger and the exhaust now drones a lot more deeper & louder since the fill up.
Would it be the gas causing this or it the old proverb that things run best before they break??

It's very remote, but the Sunoco gas may be running a tad richer on your tune, and the cats atre reacting. I'm shaking my head no, but it's the only possible linkage netween the two topics I can imagine at this time.

Different formulations. Yes, I believe this can happen. Things like timing and injector pulse widths (relative mixture) will affect the engine and subsequently the tone.

Yeah, thought I remembered the gas changed in the Winter? When I lived "up there". Maybe Sunoco has their summer gas already. Did I just make a fool of myself?

I never noticed a difference with gas but air temperature and humidity I have. hot and dry in vegas the engine sounds weak, no low tones. cold and wet on the coast, deep and powerful sounding.

I think you may have it mixed up with having to change the air in your tires from the winter air to summer air.
Thanks Marty for the confidence, Ill be sure to keep that roadside assistance card handy!!

Hmmm, it usually depends on what I had for dinner, but yes. Generally speaking, a full tank of "good stuff" makes my exhaust a bit louder.

Nope, winter blend is still used up north. Blackened, maybe you got some gas without alcohol in it?

I noticed the same thing when I switched from Crown Premium to Amoco Ultimate.

All humor aside, maybe we're starting to catch up and really think like our EECs think? "What is going on today?" Outside temps, humidity, and stuff like that? Maybe the EEC is smarter than us?
Hal?
Open the door, Hal...
