I don't understand how modifying, or exchanging our present tips would do....

Getting a bigger diameter releases back pressure for better power?.....Do you get a better sound?

It's strictly a sound issue only. They give a more robust sound without being to loud. The original concept car had the tips without the resonator. The resonator was added for NHV requirments.

And mufflers are not superficial, actually increasing power?
