I'm working out the dates to extend teh trip on the front or backend. Seems to me the drive there will be much more than the drive home.

Pencil me in.

Dallas Metro people. - Where will you connect with I-10?

As far as radios, anyone else have Nextel? My nextel also has an offnetwork feature but I don't know the frequencies of the channels.

Logan, are you wanting to caravan? Cyclone03 has a wedding to go to but I am sure we can get some one to take his Marauder down there and he can fly out to Flordia and Drive back....just a funny thought.....

Adam, you can add IK04 (Kevin--Ft. I was curious is anybody from the North Texas/OK area is planning on going to this? I saw where Cruzer may be going, but havent seen anybody else in the other threads. Im supposed to be retired by then and am thinking about attending. Anyone else?

Let's make this our official MV4 thread--anyone planning to attend from the Texas, Oklahoma, Louisana, Tennessee, Mississippi, etc area please sign in so we can set up meeting places along the route--I can state from past eexperience---caravaning to a MV is an adventure like no other--plan to be a part of it--we should come up with a route that will produce the most cars and plan to hook-up with the Eastern US gang in Northern Florida---time is short--lets's get moving. Previous trips by me to the Orlando area have taken more than one day from East Texas/NW La. Usually a stop in the Northern part of Fla prior to turning south on I-75 was required. Traveling in convoy is inherently slower so an overnite in North Florida seems likely.

I'm in for a convoy leaving Texas Wednesday, 8 Nov, I can meet up on I-10 or I-20 where I-49 intersects. Keep us posted.

Hope this convoy idea works out.

Hey, SID210SA;

Was that your Marauder I saw in the parking lot of a medical center on Huebner Road last Saturday, noon, 25th?

Does your car have cobra badges on the front quarter panel?

I was visiting SA and turned in to Luby's next door and noticed a Sillver Birch Marauder sitting all alone in the medical center parking lot.

SID210SA:

We appreciate you taking the lead in forming a convoy going to MV4 along the I-10 corriddor.

Given the interest shown by folks along and north of I-10, I'm thinking that, the convoy, as it proceeds from it's starting point of San Antonio, would rendevous with single or groups of MM's along the way, either on the fly or at a way-station.

This means that some sort of communication with parties wanting to join the convoy would be required to affect link ups. Maybe if all parties gave you their cell phone numbers and location where link up is expected you (or some others in the convoy) could advise of expected ETA's at points along the route?

I realize this will incurr expense on your phone, but we could chip in to defray the cost.

For example, I would join up at Lafayette, La (I-49/I-10) but I would need to know about what time the convey would be passing thru. A call on the cell phone would be perfect.

FWIW.

SID210SA
04-03-2006, 10:25 AM
Definately Pat, When every one chimes in it would be a good Idea to put your location or a location on where to meet the convoy....Also if you have the family band radios that would be good to keep in contact while in the convoy, their easy to use and fairly inexpensive. As far as minutes go....I have plenty to burn...and as everyone chimes in I can pm you for contact information....lets keep this going

Its a long way off but it probably makes sense to meet up in Lafayette, LA, where IH 45 and IH 10 merge. Also, I wouldnt mind overnighting enroute (Mobile, AL is a nice place and right on IH 10), but could go straight thru if that is the plan. Just somthing to think about for now. For commo I would suggest a handheld CB for $30 from Wal-Mart, they work just fine with no external antennae.

Howdy Maury and everyone else attending!

I will easily be able to adjust my schedule (I hope) to meet a southbound convoy on I-35 at either Temple, Belton, Georgetown or Roundrock/Austin!

I was planning on flying low with cruzer anyway, so it will be fun!

A marauder convoy is really a blast and it makes the drive go quickly. Being in a marauder makes the drive go QUICKLY, too!

I'll be in touch and fine tune as we get closer.

Gotta go.... Combat mission today.

See you all then!

Is it time for some more discussion on a convoy to Marauderville? SID210SA are you still the point man in this matter?

A couple of weeks ago at the show in Grapevine, Chuck's, I briefly discussed this with Cruzer and Vortex. Some members had to drop out for various reasons, Cruzer is trying to resolve a scheduling issue, Vortex is ready to go and so am I.

Cruzer did mention the Dallas group, number unknown, would travel down I-20 to I-49 in Shreveport, La where I and would meet with them on the 7th. We would then head south to I-10 at Lafayette, La. meet up with your group then head to Florida with an overnight at Dennis Reinharts house, naw just kidding, but would overnight somewhere in northern Florida late on the 7th. Then travel to Orlando on the 8th.

Cruzer am I correct so far? Leave home(s) on the 7th arrive Orlando the 8th?

mrjones from Lufkin would probably meet you and any others from south Texas, Houston, Austin areas along I-10 at various points yet to be determined.

There is at least one interested party on the .Org site who lives in Pensacola that wants to join our group.

Thanks,

Pat

Pat, Just want to let you know Im still in. I will be leaving Dallas on the 7th, using the I-20, I-49, I-10 route and overnighting either in Mobile or Pensacola. I still think CBs are the best for commo, they sell handheld ones at wal mart for $40 and no external antenna is needed.

I can intercept a convoy moving South on I-35 or perhaps East on I-20. Depending on where Logan goes, I can also go south on I-35 to US290 and work my way over to Houston and I-10.

A linkup in San Antonio would be nice, and then I-10 all the way...

I nominate San Antonio as the location for MV5!!! That would be a party! (and all the Texas gang could contribute!) Oh yeah!

Welcome to our world, LAK, keep an eye out on this thread for developments, still early, just trying to get the oil flowing in this project after the summer break, still have a lot of heming and hawing to do.

All of you close to the SA and Austin are welcome to join up here or where ever is best for you and we can pick up Houston, LA, and every where else along the way. The longest convoy award would have to go to the West Coast group for the trip to Indy-I believe it was NAVCHAP, Fourth Horsemman and the Teamropes. I feel like I forgot someone??? Hi Ho Everybody that's going to Caravan to MV4 with the NTM group.

The distance to Lafayete La (I-10/I-49 intersection) is roughly the same from San Antonio(via Houston) or Dallas(via Shreveport) and should take about 9 hours. If both groups left their respective starting points at 7 AM, 7 Nov, they would be in Lafayete arout 4 PM. Continuing east would put the caravan in Pensacola, Fla @ 9PM. If the group wanted to contine on then it would be about 1AM, 8 Nov, to reach Tallahasssee, Fla.

That would indeed be a long drive for the groups starting from SA or Dallas.

Leaving Tallahassee in the morning, before 9, would put our convoy in Orlando during the mid to late afternoon of the 8th (registration day).

Does this time line jibe with what you guys know of these routes?

Your mileage is correct, about 1200, but I think that 20 hrs would be a more realistic figure, averaging 60 MPH. If you left SA at 7AM, the 7th, then 20 hrs later would be 4 AM in Orlando, with the time change. Do we really want to get there at 4AM? check-in time isn't until 3PM, the 8th.

If we stayed overnite in Tallahassee on the 7th, left the morning of the 8th we stand a chance of picking up a convoy or two from the Eastern seaboard passing south. Just thinking. Another point, do we want to be conspicuous during the middle of the night hours? If we all had black MM's then the LEO's may not see us, but I know yours, mine and Vortex's are SBs. Ha.

Pat,

Yeah I dont think we should drive straight thru...a stop somewhere along the way is a good idea for rest and relaxation. We need to find maybe a 3/4 way point to stop and spend the night I think. I will find out what the latest time to check in is before they cancel the reservation.....just to cover bases.
I have only been along I-10 to Florida once and it was over 20 years ago so I dont know of any places along the route to stop.

Mike;

The number of cars IMO does make a difference in the average speed of the group, I only say this as a planning factor.

So far I can only name three people who are going for sure, and that's you, me and Vortex. Cruzer is only a definite maybe at this time. If you have a NTM members list, it might be prudent to get a preliminary head count. I'll split the calling duties with you. Just E-mail me a list, marked off, and I'll go from there. Use Grannys01@yahoo.com.

Tallahassee is my first recommendation for several reasons. It's within striking distance of Orlando for a mid afternoon ETA without pushing it after RON. It's a large enough city where multiple motel check-ins can be accomodated.

Arrival, although late (1AM) is not unreasonable if you have someone traveling with you that can share driving (if you don't you might want to get someone)(try the yellow pages under "escorts",..... l crack myself up sometimes).

Driving in a convoy does require more concentration, being overly tired is not wise.

Pensacola would be my second choice but would mean a later ETA in Orlando. But a telephone call will hold our rooms as you suggested.

Hi all,

I won't be able to leave Pensacola until after 3:00 PM on Wednesday the 8th as my wife doesn't get off from work until then (school teacher) and she could not get that Wednesday off, only Thursday and Friday so it looks like you will be there before I can get there. Wave when you pass through Pensacola, though. By the way, if you decide to stay the night in Pensacola versus Tallahassee, let me know. I may be able to call around (locally) and find you a place to stay together. I know of a couple of decent motels right off I-10 just after coming into Florida that would probably do nicely. You can e-mail me directly at lwblumjr@juno.com .

Pat, Just wanted to give this a bump. I know Ill see you at the picnic but a couple of questions; on commo, my suggestion is handheld cb's, they are cheap at wal-mart for $40 and no need for an external antennae. Also, I have a nextel with the builtin walkie talkie too, but I prefer the cb myself. Secondly, do we have a motel in Tallahasee identified yet or do we just drive til we see something along the highway there? Might be best to make reservations in advance. It will be a long drive for me, 883 miles from Dallas to Tallahasee, but no real problem but I will be pooped.

I will mention that if anybody else is planning to hook up with us enroute, now is the time to speak up. Maybe if we identified a motel in Tallahassee, others could meet us there on Wednesday morning. For anybody that lives near there, any suggestions on motels would be appreciated, ie La Quinta, ect...

Jim, I didn't fully realize you had to travel so far.

I'm looking at a map and Pensacola is 200 miles closer than Talahassee.

That will leave a 500 mile trip to Orlando, but you won't be so tired. Why don't we stay in Pensacola?

I'll look into hotels along the I-10 corridor and report back.

Info: Lilalleykatt:

The distance from Dallas to Lafayette (Vortex and Pat) is 400 miles.
It's also 400 miles from San Antonio to Lafayette(James79stang).

Therefore, if all parties left at 7:30 AM, 7th Nov, traveling at normal highway speeds then everyone should arrive in Lafayette on or about 3:00 PM.

Let's PM each other with our cell phone numbers and we can rendevous at the intersection of I-10 and I-49.

The wife, Patricia, has selected for us a hotel, The Comfort Inn Pensacola, 8690 Pine Forest Rd, west side of city right off I-10. Cost about $80.00.

If that's OK then make your reservations individually.

Estimated time of arrival in Pensacola is 9PM (allowing for supper time).

Don't forget to get your hand held CB's from Wal Mart, about $40.00.

If there are no objections I'm agreeable to meet Lilalleykatt at the hotel the morning of the 8th and proceed with him to the Drag racing Museum (read his post on this thread) then on to Orlando arriving in the afternoon.

Questions? Comments? suggestions? we should be able to put this thing in concrete the first week end in Nov.

If your traveling alone and need to be spelled, the wife knows how to drive a Marauder. Just be sure and draw a circular gunsight on the windshield in magic marker and she'll get us there.

James:

Don't worry the 3 PM rendevous is conservative. I thought you were coming from San Antonio, my bad.

Jim and I will wait for you, will also be in phone contact.

As I mentioned to Jim, bring a relative, maybe a kissing cousin.

Jim, there is no need to leave so early, 7:30 will put you here in Shreveport around 10 AM driving at 70-74 MPH. Then it's 4 hrs or so to Lafayette, We
should be there around 3 PM with lunch stop. I think.

Give me a call on the cell phone when you get to Waskom. Meet up at I-49 and Burt Kouns BK.

:( Well, I pushed it as far as I could, but I won't be in Orlando. I had hoped to fly down at the last minute, but the sale of my airplane has completely wiped any out chance. It's a $20,000+ deal and the buyer is setting the time talbe--final delivery is set up on the 10th--no choice. I'll really miss seeing all the folks there--maybe MV5 will work out better for me. Ya'll have fun and be safe--take LOTS of pics and videos--my thoughts will be with you, Maury:( :(  :censor:

James;

I was just looking at the poll at the beginning of this thread and there were fourteen souls that expressed their desire to convoy to MV IV.

But that number was just an expression from folks who wanted to go but probably knew it wasn't going to be. One can always dream.

So, to answer your question we have three to Pensacola and four leaving.
Me, You and Vortex then lilalleykat joins us in P-town.

OK, I am free of my post-deployment honey-do's and I am ready to start the trip to MV4. I plan to vote tomorrow if I can find my voter registration documents (missing in the 14 months of mail), then hit the road later Y=Tuesday.

Let me know when and where you all will be so I v=can intercept you prior to Pensacola. I usually don't stop until I get past the Alabama-Florida border when driving East, so I can make up any lost time there.

I'll be waiting for answers....

Thanks,

Kevin

Vortex,

I talked to James79stang around 9 this evening, he's leaving San Angelo around 2 AM and going through the hill country to Houston then it's I-10 to Lafayette. Patricia and I are all set and well see you in Shreveport.

Kevin will probably catch us around Lafayette. Ain't cell phones great.

Patricia is bringing her video camera, would love to make a video of the drag race caravan, like MV III.

Rained here all day yesterday and today. I checked the weather enroute and it should be ahead of us all the way until Florida, then rain Wednesday, clearing out Thursday with a clear week end. As it stands now.

Well guys, here we three are at the Comfort Inn in Pensacola, driving was good but fast, many bears on the I-10.

So far James has traveled 900 miles, Vortex has traveled 700 miles and I have traveled 500 miles.

We met up in Lafayette within 10 minutes of each other.

The two way radios are fun, and the weather is great.

We talked to Kevin (IK04) a few minutes ago and he's traveling through the night and planning on meeting us here at the hotel.

Lilallykat may not make it due to unforseen circumstances, he may meet up with us at MVIV on Friday.

Well we had supper and it's off to the sack.

When I last talked to ik04(Kevin) he was 25 minutes from the hotel--that was over an hour ago. Jim (Vortex) , Pat ( Pat) and James (james79stang) were already in the hotel--so all our group arrived safely:banana2:  :burnout: . Now I am standing by to hear all the stories they have to tell Talked to Kevin a couple hours while he was enroute--helped keep him awake:D He drove non-stop from Fort Hood to Orlando:help: Rod (Redster) is flying down, so we will be pretty well represented--I think we had 9 at Indy. I'll pass on info as I get it. See you tomorow nite at J/E and Sunday at LePeep--check in please, Maury
