CRABMONSTER?

It might be wise to ask the service guys at your dealership. For instance, is there any way you could triger a false deployment of your airbag? That's what's under there, y'know.

The trim comes off. Start at the passenger side and pry it from the dash with your hands but be careful when you get to the heater controls, there are a couple extra clips. Good luck solving the mystery.

ANY time you're working around the air bags it's prudent to disconnect the battery...accidental deployment can and has happened, and if you're not in the normal seated position, you can be seriously hurt.

You're saying when you seperate that long trim piece from the dash I need to disconnect my airbags in fear of accidental deployment?

No. I'm saying that people have been injured by accidental deployment of the air bags and that it's reasonable and prudent to disconnect the battery whenever working with or in close proximity to the air bag covers in the dash and/or the steering wheel.

Leave the airbag alone. If you look carefully at the glove box, you'll see that you can, after emptying it, drop it completely out of the way leaving only the hinges for attachment. That'll give you a good look up, behind and below it. There's also the 'hush' panel below (Above pass' feet.) that comes away easily. This should give you a great view of the underdash area on the passenger's side. With a flash light, look for the obvious. If nothing obvious, look for screws that have backed out, or a loose housing. It's not likely the airbag is rattling, they're in there pretty securely.

Good Luck,

J
