I went to the dealer on March 9, 2006 to discuss a reception problem with the factory radio. The radio repairman was very aware about the reception problems with these radios. He immediately ordered a replacement under the basic factory warranty--without even listening to the radio:) . However, he said that there was a nationwide backorder of about 700 radios:( . Luckily, he was able to find a replacement radio within two days. It works great.:)
Is there a backorder for the factory radio?

I think in a previous thread it was mentioned that they were no longer being made, period. You sure you received the correct radio?

The replacement is the same radio as before--except the replacement works properly. The steering wheel controls work, the trunk cd works, and the buttons are the same.

I had the same problem with my MM. I bought it used but it came with the Mercury Certified Warranty. There was a back order and so I opted for a rebuilt radio. It has worked great for 5 months so far.

No problems with my '04. What should I be listening for?

Either the am band or fm band (sometimes both) will have very weak reception. In fact, one or both of the bands will have only static. The problem can come and go. The volume sometimes has to be increased to hear a station. The cd and tape deck were unaffected.

I don't know if there was a shortage when I bought my car, but my radio was being replaced when I was originally going to pick it up, so I had to wait the weekend before I could get it. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a shortage though.

Yep, after 80K my radio went out. Mostly static on both bands. Occassionally, however, without warning, it will play fine, but only for a short time. Haven't had time to get it fixed (way out of warranty) with all of my engine problems going on.

I bought a spare when mine went out a year ago. If anyone needs one it is $275.00 plus shipping.

Glad my memory was wrong. This is a factory radio that I actually like and would replace/repair instead of toss out.

They are worth about 250-300 used. I'd let it go for 200 so i could get a sway bar...
Sub and amp for the other sway bar! Ha!
