Glad you made it over here Donny. This is an awesome site with some awesome people. AS far as problems I honestly dont know of any other than they go through tires like crazy lol. When you go to look for one just look it over really well like anyother used car. Most common fordt mods are a tune, gears, exhaust,CAI. As soon as I get my car back on the road I will let ya drive it and see what you think.

The best advice I can give you is, look for a 2004. 2003s were the
first year for the Marauder and there were some 'bugs' if you will.
Paint issues, drivers side head tick, and a few others. Best of luck
on finding the right Marauder :)

Yeah Joe that would be cool I have yet to drive a marauder. Ive just been drooling over there since 03. I want to supercharge the SVTF but i will more than likely just put my money down on a marauder as im getting tired of the SVTF. And with my family the marauder should fit me perfectly.. thanks for your info guys everyone seems really cool on this site.:burnout:

I also joined a few months before finding and buying one (3/6/06). In my case, a 2004 with 25K miles and performance tune. Only problem I've had so far is saying "No, you can't drive it." over and over again to my kids.
There is a tremendous amount of information in the GARAGE forum on repairs and mods.

It's a perfect family car. My two kids just love it. Just remember, those kids get bigger, and eventually want to drive it. I still have three more years til then.
Have fun looking. Make sure the wheels are in good shape, as they cost $600 = to replace...

Welcome :welcome: to the MM.Net. Just go out and get one ... you won't be disappointed. You will even get used to that irritating "grin" after awhile. :D Lots of info available using the 'search' function. Problems ??? I have an '03 MM and have had no problems to speak of in 31,500 miles of Maraudering. Best part is that you buy a car and get a family !!! ;)

Welcome aboard! I myself am still new with the Marauder. I bought mine back in 12/05 but I have learned more than by joining this site than I ever thought. I don't know what common problems the Marauder has, that is a very good question for the guys who have had the Marauder's since they 1st came out. From what I can tell the 1st mods that people are doing including myself are exhaust (just flowmasters welded onto stock piping for me right now) doing the full header to tip exhaust from DR, SCT xcal2 flash tuner, JTL or K&N air intake systems and 4.10 gears. If people get tired of you asking questions their not going to say anything cause I've asked a bunch of questions since joining and everyone has been very helpful and couldn't ask to be part of a better community with such great people as the guys and gals that make up the American Association of Mercury Marauder Owners! wOOt:party::beer:

In my case the lil woman keeps saying when we ride together "kids in the back seat cause accidents and accidents in the back seat causes kids" and then gives me the wink wink :D .

Early 2003 models (black ones) seem to have some bad paint issues. I have a Dark Blue Pearl 2003 built in Jan 2003 and the paint is fine. At 29000 miles I have put four new tires on, had windshield wipers start by themselves, had one shock go bad. Wipers and shock under warranty/extended warranty. Drivetrain continues to be great!! Tires are fairly expensive and hard to find. Do a search on "blue smoke" - some folks have a big cloud of blue smoke on cold start after the car sits a while. Some have the dreaded "ticking". So far I have neither. Power Mods so far are a Dennis Reinhart tune with Excalibrator2 and Magnaflow mufflers. I have an air intake to install as soon as she gets out of the body shop from elective surgery.

Donny, don't settle on a color until you have seen them all in person. They are all gorgeous. Photos on a computer screen just don't do them justice.

We took the time to look over all 4 colors in person, but for me, as soon as I laid eyes on Blue, I was done looking...

That's the Defyant Marauder .... his is Trilogy Kit #67. I don't think that anyone has cracked the code on MM build numbers since they seem to have been mixed in between Gran Marquis on the assembly line at St. Thomas Assembly Plant (STAP).

[quote=MEANSVT] But i was wondering what are the most common problems with the marauder? Not sure if there is a most common problem. 300A's had crappy paint. Head tick, blue smoke are problems that can occur. Minor problems include bad wiper controls, bad heated seat switch.
What should i look for when purchasing my marauder? Paint quality, transmission work, overheating. All things to avoid or get a big reduction in price for them.
Get the VIN # of any car you are interested and get the OASIS report for the car.
If possible get a nice, clean lower mileage car. My preferences run to 2003 300b or 2004. If I were in the market I would get a 2003 DPB.
Also my car will not remain stock for long i was wonder what the most common first mods?
Mods are a personal thing. It depends on how much you have to spend. Superchargers can run $5000-7500. Cold Air Inlets $250, Programers $300-500, rear gears $700-1000.
I think a good first mod (in hindsight) would be an XCAL II with a good tune. A couple of supporting vendors have these.
And for the eibach lower springs do you just need the front since the rear has air bags? yes
jeremy
Listen for rear axle bearing noise on early 2003s. Look out for fogged headlamps. Also watch out for ruined driver seat springs... These cars are very attractive for the heavy set.

The most common "problems" I read about here not posted above are:
1. Squeaky hood - easily fixed.
2. Front end noise/clunk - Usually a loose fastener in the suspension or body mount or a broken upper shock mount.
3. Leaking rear shocks.
