Brought my '04 MM to the selling dealership for a few warranty items to be taken care of. I also requested that the alignment be done using carfixers specs. After a long wait the service writer came out and said the alignment was at the factory specs..... I asked if he saw the front tire wear on the inside, he said he did, I said that's because of the factory specs!!! The sevice writer then said they could use carfixers specs but they'd have to cut the shock towers????? I said WTF:eek:  ?????? I told him that there were 100+ MM's out there using the same specs and that none of them had to have the shock towers or any other modifications done. I think the tech just didn't want to do the job. I guess I'll be taking it in to another dealership.....

There is a flag on the cam bolt of the front lower control arm that needs to be cut off in order to adjust camber. He may have meant that flag. If he actually meant cutting the shock towers, he's an idiot.

Im having the same problem. I have owned the car for 18 months now and have had the allignment done three times. My tires are worn on the inside. They tell me that the tires were only out of spec very slightly. I find that hard to believe when my tires are worn on the inside and Im fighting to keep the wheel straight! Im not sure what to do about it anymore!

I brought the specs in and gave them a printout of the many threads on this. Told them they may need to cut the welded bolt/flag. No problems. they did charge me an extra $50 for the extra time they took, but the alignment is great.

I originally had the same problem they told me I needed to cut a bolt, never said anything about a flag. They just said we need to cut the bolts off and movie the steering rack. I said just give me back my car. Then I took it to Brian (RoyLPita) and it got done right. :D

Well...since my local friendly neighborhood L/M dealer just built a new service garage they now have a HUNTER alignment system that can handle my MM. Noticing some inside wear on my KDW2s (with 18k on them), I dropped my MM off yesterday afternoon...not to worry, they take good care of me and put my MM inside for the night when I do afternoon drop-offs. Any way, I gave them CARFIXERs alignment specs and got it back this afternoon. Here are the before and after values:

FRONT: BEFORE AFTER

CASTER

LEFT 6.49 5.06
RIGHT 6.54 5.32
CAMBER

LEFT -0.79 -0.46
RIGHT -0.19 -0.01
TOE

LEFT -0.10 0.00
RIGHT -0.19 0.00
Granted the left CAMBER is .1 point out of spec with CARFIXER's specs, but they said that was the best they could do.

Hey fastblackmerc and proudcop-----

You need to stop ny frdwrnch's L/M shop here in Charlotte next time down--he knocks off the flag and the guys have the MM specs correctly---how come you ask --well he too has an MM and is the Service Mgr. as well...I have taken mine there as have others here in town and no one has had any problems--------the MM is carefully watched at his place----Am sure you could PM him for more data----but think about making an appointment and come on down----we'd get an impromptu meet together as well .......Tom

Hey Tom, I definitly need to do that with Frdwrnch sometime soon. I spent all my money on my honeymoon so it will be a while. Its amazing that we have to go through so much just to ge a decent allignment!

My front tires show the typical tire wear (inside edge).
It took so long to get rid of a steering wheel shake, I am apprehensive to change anything concerning front tires and alignment.
I do need tires @ 20K on the fronts, they are featheredged and the rears are complaining.:burnout: I think burnouts can make the rears noisy.
Just my theory.:P
