Just wondering what Fuel everyone likes to use. Seems that some people are real particular where they fill up.
If I have my choice, I like Sunoco's 94.

No Sunoco around here. Mine only drinks BP/Amoco or Mobil. I don't even look at the prices, just the signs...

Mostly Gulf, because it's convenient and the price is competitive, but The Blackbird doesn't seem to care what brand it gets, as long as it's at least 92 (most premium around here is 93). The only stations I stay away from are the grungy little no-name independents; even though they probably get their gas from the same depot as the majors, I figure they may not keep their tanks as clean, or change the filters in their pumps as often...but even that could just be paranoia on my part.

I try to stick with major name brands. Most often I fill up at the same Texaco or Hess stations. Both have plenty of traffic to keep their fuel fresh. I avoid small out-of-the-way no-name stations unless I really have to. I will also use Shell or Amoco if away from my favorite two stations. Nuttin but 93 for Blue Thunder. Thw wife also discovered Black Lightning runs better and gets slightly better mileage with 93 octane.

Out here on the Left Coast we don't get Sunoco. All my cars get Chevron.
Used to buy Mobil, but some time back they changed the formula, and it caused my float needles to stick
on cold mornings. (MM is my only injected car, unless you count the mortally wounded '93 LX...)

I try to buy fuel from companies that DO NOT buy their crude from the mid-east. Citgo is the only one around here. If I can't get Citgo I buy Texaco/Shell. Car seems to perform well on any 92-93 Octane.

My best mpg is on Hess 93, second is on Sunoco 93, the rest is a crap shoot. Unfortunately for me the closest Hess is 25 miles away. If you are ever traveling through here DO NOT put Savon gas in your MM... The gas is cheaper than their cheap prices and unregulated due to being from a sovereign nation

An interesting post! I generally use Holiday or Amoco. But this got me thinking where does my gas come from?(yeah, I know Taco Bell:rolleyes:) I am assuming crude oil comes to regional refineries and then gets made into gasoline. Therefore all my local stations purchase from the same refinery or pipeline. Is this correct? Anyone with industry knowledge here?

I stick with Hess, Amoco, or Shell. But, what's also important to me is, the pump itself. I will not gas the MM at a "single nozzle" pump. I look for pumps with seperate nozzles for each grade of gasoline, hopefully assuring that each gallon I pump in is the good stuff, and I'm not getting a gallon-and-change of regular unleaded while the system "changes over".

MOST gas stations only have 2 types of fuel. Cheap Stuff and Good Stuff.
You select Cheap, you get Cheap.
You select Premium, you get premium.
Now if you select the Middle Grade, the two types blend to make the Middle grade Octane Rating. Most pumps do this at the pump.

I usually use Mobil (mostly because I have a SpeedPass) but I get some pinging under medium acceleration even with the 93 premium. I also like Exxon becasue I have read that Techroline is the best cleaner available and will use Texaco if I can't find one of the first two stations. Unfortunatley we don't have Sunoco anywhere near my normal driving area.
Anyone remember the old Sunoco "Dial Your Octane" pumps? I used to fill my 440 Six Pack 'Cuda with it in Ft. Lauderdale in the 70's. I think it was about $.55 per gallon for the good stuff. Tempis Fugit.

Old ??? I think they still had some of those pumps at Sunoco in our area less than 10 years ago. Of course, back then I was using alot of Amoco, Exxon (heck, I remember Esso when it stood for "Standard Oil") and Mobil.

I remember them...I used to hang out at a local Sunoco many years ago...at that time they had 5 grades called 90, 100, 120, 140, and 160...you selected which one you wanted with a dial on the side of the pump. I don't remember what the octane ratings were.

Sunoco over here in NY seems to have done away with the 94 octane, But their 93 seems to make my car run the best.

I usually go to Shell, Exxon or Hess. One intersection right up the street from my shop has all 3 stations has them in a girly stone throw away from eachother and I just go to whatever one is cheapier but their usually always the same price, not that I really care about the cost cause I'm going to pay it anyways to fill up the beast but its always good to save a few pennies cause they will just go towards the mod fund. :D

I almost exclusively fill up at the Spur station by my house. Every so often I sneak a tank full of their non-oxygenated gas but I don't notice any difference. Too bad I can only get 92 octane up here...
Here is an interesting link (http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/cli.html) that lets you see where petroleum products are being imported from (by company). I don't think it really makes any difference but at least I can say all of the crude I burn comes from Canada (Murphy Oil Co owns Spur).

I agree.
"Amoco Ultimate" is advertised to be the only gas with a SEPARATE delivery infrastructure.
I've used it for years in everything from ricers to the MM. Totally consistant and totally predicatable performance. Use this gas if you want a REAL baseline.
Sometimes I use Exxon/Mobil as a second choice if I can't find a BP, but I do notice differences even between local stations.

I have two Citgo stations across the street from each other at the end of my block. One is usually .01 per gallon cheaper than the other, but I don't really care which one I visit. I look for the shortest lines and wait time. One station as 4 pumps, the other has 20, and I'm short on patience.
OTR brand doesn't matter to me either. It's going to be gone in 320 miles anyway. As long as I can get 93 octane, I'm happy.

When i moved here i had 94 sunoco and thats all i put in my MM Now since the gas crunch the big ____ heads in either maryland or sunoco decided to remove 94 oct from pumps in here.So when ever i can get it is like a treat for it.

BP 93 only for my 93 tune.
100 CAM2 Unleaded for race tune...or
VP Racing Unleaded 103
In the Turbo Buick we use VP Race gas only, called C-16 which is 117 octane leaded.

Same on the new Ford Freestyle LTD that I picked up for my wife in January 2006. Says "Ford recommends BP gas" with the BP logo on the cap. The F/S gets Sunoco or Exxon .... :D

Yes. I am aware that Exxon and Mobil are now under the same management. I noted the post regarding different formulations and dissatisfaction with Exxon. Curious as to why, I haven't had any problems here in Florida.
Is there a subject matter expert out there who would care to comment on Techroline and / or any other detergent additives used and which may be better than others? (As dispensed from the pump - not added separately - that question is below.)
Also curous as to experiences with so called fuel injector clearner additives - effective or not? Useful as a prophylactic?
Finally, curious as to experiences with octane booster additives. Usefull? Effective? Waste of money?
Anyone ever try running aviation fuel (100LL) in their Marauder? If so what was experience?
