The 04 's been sitting most of the winter, garaged, but driven on clear days when no snow or salt on the street, maybe 4 times a month. Well today I set her up in the driveway for a nice bath and grooming and while drying I notice these raised bumps on the lower rubber window trim on the R/side rear door. The bumps run the length of the trim on the surface thats parallel with the ground. about nine or ten. about the size of the head of a finishing nail. when I pushed down on one it gave a little like it's soft underneath. Nothing on the other side. WTF is goin on here? A 35K$ car with 8K miles. Anybody else ??

First thing I'll check when I get back to CA!
Our cars did have paint coverage, or lack thereof, issues...
Yikes!

My boss's '03 chevy truck had some issues like that. The paint was bubbled up on the inside of the lower doors. He thought it was rust too, but is was just a little moisture that had gotten trapped under the paint....so, it was almost rust, but they didn't have to do any grinding/body work. The dealership just stripped and re-painted it. Maybe this is your problem? I'll be on the lookout now though, so thanks for the heads-up.

I know exactly what you mean, though I haven't seen it on the Merc yet. Its not a paint issue, as a couple of posts allude. Its a trim issue, right? The trim can look like that for years and not get any worse. The Tempo had, and still has this. Its never really gotten any worse, and that's ten years and 300 k later. I don't kow what causes it, though. At least its not like those stupid Contours. They were rubber on aluminum, and when they went, they went HARD. They would splay open like an alien creature erupting from the trim. Then they'd jam windows, fall off, etc. Crappy.
Hope someone knows what causes it on the MMs, though. Maybe it could be a warranty issue?
