I bought the trans pan with the drain plug and installed it yesterday.:rasta:

I thought the pickup from the filter stuck down in the drop well in the center of the pan but it doesn't??

I wonder what that recessed place is for.....To collect dirt and moisture??

Anyone know??:help:

Was your pan kind of dirty when you received it? If so, what did you use to clean it up? Also, how often to you think that you are going to drain it?

Thanks.

Shora, I got my pan from Dennis and it was perfectly clean. I like to use CRC Brakleen in the green can as it evaporates quickly and leaves no residue.

Shora,

Mine looked like it just came out of the Galvanizer.....Clean & Shiney!!

I will probably drain it every oil change....cannot hurt and it's only about 4.5 quarts!!;)

BTW, I think the recess in the pan is a condensate trap...Whatcha think??

Depending on the pan, the pan is larger to hold 3 more quarts of fluid. The extra fluid makes for a cooler running transmission. The recess is to hold the filter in place.

How long was your install time?

I believe the filter pickup sits on the flat of the pan just outside the recessed area.....There is a mark in the old pan where it rests....I think??

I vacuumed out the fluid...dropped the old pan and installed the new one in half and hour or so?? Not a big deal.

I like the ideal of draining it at oil changes or maybe every other oil change!!

When you vacummed it out, how many quarts did you get? I have read quite a difference in the number in different places. As high as 19 quarts.

DirtyDog....

I used a vacuum can to suck out the pan only and usually got 3.5 quarts. Dropping the pan afterwards will yeild another quart or so but by vacuumong out the 3.5 quarts it sure is less messy!!

Now with the drain plug in the pan it will be much quicker and easier!!:D :bows:

How long was your install time? The time to R&R the transmission pan is about ½ hr...that includes replacing the filter and refilling with fresh fluid.

Using one of those pump evacuators like they use to change the oil on boats with inboard engines...there's a hose that goes down the dipstick tube.
