I have read everything ref to cleaning the contacts. I was wondering if something like Acetone or Finger Nail Polish remover could also be used to decrease the amount of cleaning with the pad.

I used nail polish remover followed by a final wipe with an alcohol prep. Works fine....

JohnnyB,
Great I was hoping that would be the case. I figure that it would make it a whole lot easier. Thanks for your fast response!

amedd and Johnny:
Gotta put in my $0.02 here...if you use acetone, use the minimum amount necessary and be absolutely sure to get it ALL off, and let the board dry thoroughly before you install the chip; acetone is a powerful solvent, and you probably don't want it to get on the plastic connector of the chip...might make for intermittent contact later...printed circuit boards are washed with very high-proof alcohol during preparation, because it leaves no residue...not sure if acetone is as benign...

Acetone does leave a film. I have used it for many years in the hospitals. Yes you are correct about using cleaning it well with alcohol. I will be using Q-tips with the acetone to limit any amount that may get on the plastic. It will eat plastic if not used properly. Thank you for your .02 cents, much appreciated. :)
