Howdy all -

I am looking into mods for my soon-to-be-purchased-MM and think I may be going with a chip and the 4.10s, IF I can figure out what they will cost me to run mileage-wise.

I know, I know, I shouldn't care. I should be more worried about teaching all of those Pontiacs around here a lesson. :P (We have an inordinate number of young kids around here driving Pontiacs at a speed they think is fast . . .)

Anyone of you gurus out there know approximately how much of a difference in MPG these 4.10 gears make?

Thanks for any help offered,
-A

My mileage doing a steady 80 on the trip over was 20.02 and on the trip back was 19.85. Keep in mind I had twice as many WOTs on the trip back and I made twice the number of stops on the way back.

The above was before and after 4.10, chip, thermo, underdrive pulleys and denso plugs.

I ran a few road trips this week and came up with similar number, maybe just a little less (.5 mpg or so), but I was playing a bit and hit some higher speeds. Check my signature for my mods; I also did the Torque Converter.

Sorry --

Stupid new guy again. What's a "WOT"?

Also, I have heard window tinting is illegal in some states, and I think in Iowa as well. :bs: Anyone know where a guy can go to get it done in IA, MN, IL, or even MO? (since it looks so damn cool I'll just say I bought the car this way if I am ever pulled over for it) Don't know if that will save me a ticket, but the window tinting is something I think I really want.

Thanks again guys,

^^^what marty said^^^

Window tinting regs vary so widely from state-to-state, you'll really have to check with someone who's done it in your area...depending on how dark it is, and on how big a ball-buster the cop wants to be, they won't care if you "bought it that way", they'll still make you remove it. Best to go with an established shop in your own state...

I would like to know how "tolerable" are 4.10s at cruising speeds of 80+ MPH ??

I ordered my 4:10s a week ago and should have them installed within a week or two.

I consistantly cruise at 80 or more. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the ride will not be uncomfortable at the 350 or so higher RPM's it will be running.

I'll let you know soon!

I cruise around 85-90 with my 4.10s and get about 20 mpg mostly hwy, some stop-n-go. If mostly city driving it drops to about 18 mpg average.
