This morning on the way to work I did something very stupid.

There was a car ahead of me on a 2 lane road with a 50 MPH speed limit. No big deal, I'm not running late so I follow him for 5 miles. That is until we are in the twisties.
I look in my rear view and a jacked up 75-85 Blazer running at least 33 inch mud grips is ridding my bumper so close I can't see his front bumper, and I can just about make out every detail on the little girls face riding in the passenger side.

This road has a 1/2 mile straight-a-way before it goes into a 25 MPH (posted) S turn with a stop sign 100 yards later.

As soon as I see their is no traffic coming I hit the go pedal.

Homer in the clod hopper thinks he can stay with me so I stay in it for a little over 1/4 of a mile. I slow down to 50 for the S turn, and look in my rear view to see Homer with 2 wheels in the ditch. He brings it back out swerving into the oncoming lane before he gets it strait.

From then on, play time is over for me. I figure this guy should be coming to his senses and driving responsably, but no. It's about 3/4 mile to the next intersection at Highway 507. All kinds of on coming traffic, so he couldn't pass till we hit the intersection.

Once I stop for the stop sign, this moron goes into the dirt to do a looser fly by WITHOUT stopping for traffic.

Once we get to the next town he makes the light and I don't so I get to see that he was in such a hurry to get the kid to school that he drove 2 miles out of his way to do his looser fly by. :shake:

Lucky no one was hurt. Next time I find someone pasted to my bumper I'm just pulling over and letting him go.

Yah, I prefer to have nutjobs in FRONT of me where I can keep an eye on them.

Oh man what movie was that I can never remember...I like the jacked up cop car who I think is driven by Henry Rollins :)

BTW, do be safe out there. People like that are quite insane. Reminds me of a few years back, same thing, getting tailed by a huge lifted Suburban. He passed me on double yellow, and I got in the lane to turn left. When he went by I made the mistake of honking in disgust. The sight of a huge lifted Suburban doing a smokey e-brake induced 180 at 50mph is pretty scary.

He follows me around just so he can pass by, SIT ON THE DOOR OUTSIDE THE WINDOW, and give my a double handed 1 finger salute, which I guess is a dual-hand two finger salute. I didn't stick around for much more...

Crazy people out there, don't seem to care much for the safety of people riding with them...

It's like drunks at this point, best to just ignore them, get outta there way, and avoid provoking them.

Got tailgated by some moron in a Ford E250 yesterday. So impatinet he kept pulling onto the 1/2 shoulder trying to find a way to pass me.
All this so he could rush up to the parking lot 395 became 1/4 mile down the road.
I'm going for the friendly wave em' on by technique next time. That way he stays off my bumper.

Gotta love it.

A good while back I had a guy tailgating me while I was driveing the Grand Am. I was doing just under 70MPH on the freeway (65MPH) in the center lane. The guy got RIGHT up on my bumper, couldn't see his bumper at all! He finally got tired of me going soooo "slow" he decided to pass to the left. He went flying around me and crested a little hill in the road. What he didn't know before doing that was a State Trooper was clocking at the bottom of that hill :D

He got pulled over bigger than anything. I gave him a honk and a wave as I drove by him on the berm sitting on the :D

I'm trying a new technique of dealing with tailgaters... not sure how it's working out because I don't have enough samples to evaluate:

I pull out my small point-and-shoot digital camera and flip it around to take a photo out my back window, while I'm paying to the road ahead obviously. My intention is 2-fold: if I get hit, I've got photographic proof of their proximity (and a timestamp on the digital photo) and I want the driver to know I am accumulating evidence against him/her/it should there be a rear-ending.

In some cases, I've taken 2 photos: one without a flash (which is the 'good' one for info purposes) and a wasted shot with a flash just to let the clown know I'm watching him/her/it.

I dunno. In some areas, your flash might get answered with another one that's a bit louder...

I agree, but not around here.

Well...my bro did something similar. Him and his friend went around one night taking shots of "rice". His friend forgot the flash was on and snapped a pic. Guy got his plate and called the cops - my bro didn't get in trouble but got a pretty stern talking to from the local smokies...

Part of me says it's a good idea, but other parts say it's going to be mis-interpreted and be something that provokes them - either towards violence or gets THEM to call the LEO's on you even though you were just driving to work.

I've thought along similar lines, but with full motion video and sound.

Then add a laptop, running:

or

Zoneminder is a bit of a bear to get working, but it's what watches Elvira at night, since some punk removed the Mercury emblem off my trunk one night with a screwdriver.

Looks good on papaer, however I have to agree with JACook. Someone may misconstrue your camera as a weapon and start throwing lead your way in order to "protect themselves" At the very least they may use their cell phone to call 911 and report that you brandished a weapon......then the Police will light you up and prone you out at gunpoint, kinda ruins your day.

I know you dont expect anyone in the anti-gun regions of Canada to have a weapon, but the last time I checked criminals have total disregard for the rulebook. I recommend that you use your cell phone first to report a recklessly driven vehicle, which in the U.S. is equivelant to DUI in terms of seriousness/punishment. Thats just my LEO two cents.
