Well I had my oil change done and I noticed that my Right Rear shock is leaking again. This shock is new and has only 5k miles on it. How could it leak already? Is this a common problem for the MM?

Seems a common problem for the shocks...
I don't know what to say anymore. I've owned 3 Marauder now, and never a shock problem. I have replaced my shocks for wear and tear, but I don't consider that a problem. Now, and just recently, "leakage" and "breakage" complaints seem to be popping up everywhere...WTF?

About a month ago one of the origninal shocks on the front died suddenly. Only 29000 miles on the car. ESP covered it. I dunno, usually replaced OEM shocks on crown vics at about 40-50k due to rough ride. I am just gonna wiat for the other three on the MM to blow on their own. I do mainly city driving, with a lot of manhole covers, potholes, speedbumps and speedhumps so I am not too surprised.

The OEM / OES replacement shocks, as I have said in the past, are pretty poor in quality and reliability. I have never had any OEM factory Ford shock last more than 1-3 years (under 30k miles) w/o exhibiting some type of failure. I have cheap $20 Gabriels on the back of my T-bird for the past 10-15 years and they still work to this day. I think Ford shocks fail OE specs. The Tokico apologists on Crownvic.net seem to think otherwise but they're going to be biased.

I always thought Tokico was a good company. I see there products on
high preformence bikes like Yamaha 1000s etc. Until I read all these posts
about problems :dunno:

It seems to be a problem with OEM factory and replacement shocks for Fords. Their aftermarket QC is probably better.

It's maybe because you change the shocks every 2 years. :burnout:

Metro....
FYI, I have put 50-60K miles per year on my other Panthers and I don't think 100K+ miles is a bad time to replace them....do you??
I can't remember ever having a shock leak.....they just get bouncy!!:argue:
Most modern shocks are gas filled anyway so where's the oil coming from??

If a Ford dealer replaced that one under warranty with 12 months or 12000 miles, then take it back.

There's oil and gas. My Ford factory shocks get bouncy after 1-2 years. I noticed that they wouldn't return to the uncompressed length after I fully compressed them. I have a set of Gabriels on the back of my T-bird that have at least 10-15 years on them. It's not so much the miles you drive each year, it's the age of the shocks. The 03 E-250 was driven less than 20k miles before the factory ford shocks failed. The 00 Vic shocks failed within 5k miles, but always within 1-2 years. I suspect the Ford replacement shocks come from a different supplier or are of a different quality/spec. I would not put it past Ford to use a slightly inferior spec shock at the factory to save on cost. Recall that the factory FL-820-S is made by Champion while the replacement FL-820-S is made by Purolator. Ford conducts regular cost cutting meetings where they want to shave pennies off of each part. Rather than design a good vehicle, they have pretty much established a formula for shaving pennies off of parts.
