Sorry if this is old news to some of you, but someone just told me that the new NHRA rules state that anyone running a power adder of any kind has to wear a fire jacket regardless of ET? Can this be right? I don't have a 2006 rule book. Have any of you other S/Ced guys run on the 1320 yet this year w/out a jacket???? It seems that the rules just get more and more strict every year.
Can you imagine if you show up at the track to race your factory stock 03/04 Cobra running in the low 13's with factory radials, and they kicked you off the track for not having a jacket??? I can understand there being some rules for safety, but where does it end??? Correct me if this info is wrong, please!!!

Section 1A, located on page 24 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook read as follows:
" 10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) and slower; all E.T. non-OEM supercharged, non-OEM turbocharged, or nitrous-equipped cars with an OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory."

HMMMM, you might have something there. :hmmm: I guess I didn't hear the part about it making any difference if the power adder in question is factory stock or not. One guy who claims he has the 06 rulebook is saying that it doesn't matter weather it's stock or not. I'll take your word for it.

I would buy the jacket. Mine was only $60 I think.
Better safe and get to run than not.

Better safe and get to run than not.Yes, that's true. I guess $60 isn't so bad. It's just kinda rediculous though. It's just getting too strict. Now I know why there are guys who live 15 minutes away from the dragstrip with 10 second cars that only run them on the street. There are so many rules that you might as well get sponsors and become a professional driver.

NHRA is just trying to protect its record as the safest racing sport. Probably the safest of all sports. I think there have been more deaths from wild golf balls than in NHRA sanctioned drag racing.

All it takes is for a non-supercharged Marauder to go through tech and spill the beans about them not being factory supercharged and you're not allowed to run. Better off to have the jacket just in case since you won't get a refund on admission if you fail tech.

This is not good.
Most of the opportunities I will get to race, if any, it will be hot outside.
And getting one with sleeves long enough, ....well,..Anybody know a good seamstress?

First a helmet, now a jacket, windows closed. Running in Florida is going to be sweaty business.
Whose going to believe those N/A guys anyways....I hear they lie....

When I was at FFW in Orlando this March the rule was in effect. But no one asked me about the jacket, although I had it in the car. Better safe and then getting booted out.

Your probably right Billy. Hell you guys with Trilogy's could tell the tech it is an OEM option and they probably wouldn't know the difference.

Good God.
Buy a damn jacket and stop whining.
They are 50 bucks and come in handy when it is cold and windy. :D
As for helmets, only buy one that is worth what you put in it.

Attorneys. That's exactly what I was thinking Dan. They ruin everything we do it seems. You can't even find a public swimming pool at a park or at a condo anymore with a diving board. And for the same reason.

I'm thinking of bigger things Marty. And it gets expensive. More so than a jacket. Anyways, the point is, that it isn't gonna stay like that. it seems that it's gonna continue to get more and more strict year by year. Because of the blood sucking parasitic....... okay, I'll leave it at that......
LOL.
Somehow I knew that mentioning attorneys would bring Marty in for a comment. :)
Nothing personal, Marty. Attorneys have their place.

I guess it's just capatolism at it's best. It's a great system up unto a certain point. I mean, there's no better system currently on this planet, but when a hobby, or sport gets so big or organized, it also tends to get restrictive. Part of that is due to the judicial system, and perhaps part of it has to do with greed also. but what are ya gonna do? It beats communism, right? So I guess ya grin and bear it. :o

Being Italian - I'd have to agree with you - just no where any one could find them.

Hey, you don't need a jacket to go 12s. I don't have a jacket and I run 11s. Oh wait, nm.
Get the jacket, they look cool!
