View Full Version : Would 18x10 rims fit? Spacer?

Just curious if '05 Mustang 18x10 rims would fit, I know the 9.5's with the drag radials give some a rub on the shock. (And others not - lets not break it down further.)

Anyway, would a 10" wide rim fit?

I saw these while fan-clutch shopping for my Fox... http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/lrs.aspx?categorycontext=~MMUS TANG~MLIGHT~M6TAILLIGH (http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/lrs.aspx?categorycontext=%7EMM USTANG%7EMLIGHT%7EM6TAILLIGH)

They're considerably cheaper than widening my rears...assuming I went with new widened rears...and look cool. Heck I could do all four (if they sell a narrower version for the fronts) and stash away my OEMs to keep those nice and clearcoat-chip free.

That being said about the fronts, I see they have 18x9's too - too wide for up front?

What do you think?

I am not 100% positive but i think a 18x10 would stick out way too much. But 18x9 will work with no rubbing but they do stick out maybe 1/4 of a inch if that much.

Mclemore102, when you say "they do stick out maybe 1/4 of a inch if that much" do you mean a 1/4" out from under the fender?
Or just 1/4" farther than stock rims, but still in the fender?

I thought rims built for the '05 GT would fit perfectly...guess not?

Anyway, these may be a cheap alternative for a set of drag radials...

The 18x18.5 from Ford Racing Performance Parts fit with NO issues .....

My understanding it that us Member here is running custom 18x10's that use a 50MM offset.

The 05-06 Mustang Wheels have a 45MM offset. Sooooo..... I dunno ?

I think the Bullit chrome or Bullit Anthracite would look good.

Me too!
I think deep dish would look good on a marauder.

Yes ( 18 x 8.5 ... with a .25" spacer at all 4 corners ).

This is interesting...

Mclemore102 has 18 X 9 rims but says/feels they stick out about 1/4" from the fender.

gdmjoe has 18 X 8.5 rims but is using 1/4" spacer to make the wheels fit correctly.

Does this mean we'll need some sort of mythical wheel size of 18 X 8.75 for a perfect fit???

I think it has to do with backspacing. Even though all these rims fit '05 Mustangs, depending on the width of the rim I'm seeing drastically differetn backspacing from 22mm to 50mm.

I'm betting an 18x10 with a 50mm backspacing may fit. That is what I'm curious about. I can get a cheap set of nice rims for the back and load them up with some drag radials that'll bite like mad...just don't want to rub. :(

I could do the same with 18x9 or 9.5 though.

I'd like to understand more the correlation of the backspacing, width, and how the wheel sticks out.

What is our current backspacing? 38mm? If so, those who widen their wheels to 9.5 look stock, the extra width goes towards the inside of the car so the rims don't stick out further.

So whats the correlation here?

Using the 1/4" spacer was a personal, cosmetic choice and was not related to fit / clearance.

I chose the [i]Ford Racing Performance Parts rims because they had the correct ( same as Marauder ) offset and there was no clearance issues with the backspacing ( 6.8" ). *In fact according to my calculations a 9 1/2" would fit with no issues ( assuming that the offset was the same 50mm ), and that's taking into consideration a greater tire sectional width ( going to say a 45 aspect ration ... which is what I did ).

The 22mm is for the pre-2005 and the 50mm is 2005+. BTW ... Those #s are offset ( not backspacing ).

If you do the calculations correctly and get the right balance of offset, backspacing, and tire sectional width ... they would fit.

offset - the measure distance of the mounting flange and the center of the rim. *For a Marauder it's +50mm (+|-).

backspacing - the measured distance from the mounting flange to the edge of the inside lip of the rim. *For a Marauder it's 6.3".

sectional width ( of tire ) - the measured distance at the widest part of the tire ( usually the middle of the sidewall ).

Wohoo! Thanks!! :)

I'll check that link out tonight, I always get mixed up on wheel talk, time to end that. :)
