Was on the way home tonight and thought about blower insurance. I know you can get riders on your policies to cover wheels, radios and stuff that's not OEM installed. I know the '03/'04 Cobras would get covered cause it's OEM but just incase someone with a Vortech, Trilogy or Procharger totals out a ride how many, if any, have a rider to cover their blower?

My Gal is an insurance agent and I inquired about additional insurance to cover the cost of the blower and we decided to let a "Sleeping Dog Lie"!!

IMHO......I believe that most insurers would rather not know about serious power adders and would probably not insure you once you asked.....but I didn't ask!!:shake:

All cars are categorized by VIN numbers as OEM and technically ANY mods can void your policy......BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!

As has always been the case....."It is easier to get forgiveness than permission"!!

When your insurance premium skyrockets to cover the blower and car when it is stolen, you end up paying more over a long term period.

Don't ask, don't tell.
I'd just want to get the whole car back if possible, to use parts for my next ride.

When my vehicle was stolen, I inquired about my insurance policy and what it was going to cover. Apparently insurers don't want to cover a vehicle that has been "modified" to be faster and therefore apparently more dangerous. If you want to get insurance for a "modified" ride, you'll end up paying significantly more because you'll have to choose an insurer who will agree to insure your "dangerous" vehicle.

P.S., my carrier dropped me after I almost made a stolen vehicle claim. I've heard they can't do that, but after dealing with them through the stolen vehicle episode, I was happy to change.

Maybe I've been lucky?

When I bought my Kenny Brown #1x, I strolled into my State Farm agent's office, showed him my papers, and history up to that time. Showed him the C&D, and AutoWeek magazine articles, and some video from the SpeedChannel. Showed him the #1x parked outside his door, even took him for one "short-staining" ride.

When we returned to his office, we noted everything different between the stock Marauder, and my #1x. Once his hands stopped shaking, he faxed all them notes to the SFHQ "underwriters", who ever they are...

Bony fingered blue haired skinny old men with calculators in the third sub-basement of SFHQ I suppose, but I digress...

"They" responded simply to call my #1x a "recreational vehicle". Up! Big time!, and "they" issued two policies. One for the base '03 Marauder (no mods), and one for my Kenny Brown conversion, insuring it under a template SFHQ uses for RVs, i.e. utility/service vans converted into family campers.

So...If ever I suffer a loss like "stolen", my insurance claim is based on 1) the market value of a base Marauder by VIN, and 2) the value of my Kenny Brown conversion, which happens to include Vortech supercharging. Hehehe.

After that, I will have to scrap with them over every "bolt-on" mod after my initial conversion, but it's in their SF insurance language under "personal property" that "all personal property inside the vehicle must be bolted to the car", and...well...That it is...Yes? None of my stuff is like a laptop left lying on the front seat, right?

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not looking forward to making any claim with SF. I hate having to take insurance companies to arbitration, but I have, and it was SF back then too. They lost, they know it, and they know why.

"Don't sell me stuff you do not intend to deliver. I don't like that". My agent agrees.

On that note, just last September, I was involved in a minor collision down in FL. I took all the right steps, did all the right things with the police, the other driver and SF. When I got home, SF poured over the #1x car end end to end. No one from SF said one word about my performance mods. I took my estimate, paid my dedutcible, got my #1x fixed 110 percent, and walked away.

I learned my lesson...Don't lie to your insurance company.

Let them lie to you first.

I've been worrying about my Cobra insurance. I have AAA. Two AAA people have told me to keep records of what I have on it and they'll cover it. I don't trust those statements since I don't see the fine print. Anyway, a friend of mine has a different insurance that came out and appraised his Mustang (pro-stockish notch). I've been thinking about going to them or someone like Haggarty to make sure I'm covered the way I want to be covered. I don't mind paying more in order to know that I am covered. I've got way too much time and money in this money pit not to have it all covered.

Look what showed up in this years insurance policy. They were "very efficient" in excluding nearly all mechanical, appearance and elecrtronic mods. They were equally "efficient" in excluding anything "recreational" as well! I wonder if this was for all policies or because a MM is in my stable? :(
