View Full Version : Atlanta Tuning Session - The Numbers Are IN!!!
The numbers ARE In!!!!
Once I figure out how to scan do***ents on my new printer, I’ll get the Dyno sheets posted for everyone.
First let me say it was a GREAT couple of days hanging out with Dennis and the boys from FordChip. There was a LOT of Ford Power hanging around and getting tuned. Of course, the Lightning and Cobra boys might win on the overall raw power…BUT, the Marauders seem to have taken everyone by surprise.
Let me also say that if you’re happy with your stock Marauder…keep it. If not, working with Dennis and these guys is the ONLY way to go for the most dramatic and cost effective improvement to your car.
Let me start by giving you my stock baseline numbers from last August when there were 2500 clicks on her.
Bone Stock – 241.9 RWHP 261.2 LBTQ
That same day after installing Dennis’ chip, 4:10’s, ‘Stat and Cooler Copper Plugs (not the Denzos)
RPC Stage 1 - 252.0 RWHP 283.6 LBTQ
Quite an impressive gain at that time, specifically on the Torque #.
I’ve been happy with that and most specifically the improved shift-points from the chip and the low-end launch from the gears. However, when the opportunity came up for this session, I wanted to see how I could be fine-tuned. As well, this past week, I added the Steeda Underdrive Pulley set from Dennis.
Today, I first wanted to see a NEW baseline to see what effect the pullies had since my last pull. Especially since I posted earlier this week that I could definitely tell a “seat-of-the-pants” difference immediately after the install. Well...I wasn’t imagining things…(now keep in mind there are about 10K clicks since the Dyno posted above and the car has continued to feel better as the miles run up) But….
After Pullies - 267.0 RWHP 288.5 LBTQ !!!
Now, I’m not going to say the pullies are responsible for 15 HP…but, I can assure you that 8 – 12 HP came from them and I was amazed.
So…with that new baseline, it was time to get the “fine-tune” from Jerry and the FordChip boys. After he fixed the AFR (air-fuel ratio) and made a couple of tweeks…here is my final and current numbers. (which BTW was just 1 more pull)
4/27/03 Final - 272.7 RWHP 297.3 LBTQ
That’s a net-gain from stock of nearly 31RWHP & 36 LBTQ!!! All with simple “bolt-on” mods. (keep in mind the HP # would be even higher without the gear-swap…but the launch is worth it)
Net/Net…if you want to do ANY mods to your car and are like me...interested in keeping your Marauder N/A and “daily drivable”…I could not recommend Dennis’ package and his connections any higher. And if these FordChip guys are coming to your town…sign up NOW!

Well I really had a good weekend meeting some of you and enjoying golf ball size hail, but the tuning session was flawless, OK to start with Todd started out months ago with a stock base run of 241.9 RWHP and Max torque of 261 foot pounds, the sheet below shows the base run and after all the Mods so let me explain all this I wanted a chronological order sheets and this is what I got.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1051491162-tod1.jpg
Stage 1 Mods he used the copper plugs thermostat and 4:10's and our tuning/chip
He only gained 10 RWHP 252.0 RWHP but I told him don't worry the motor is fresh but look at his torque gain over 20 foot pounds Max torque 283.6 I would rather have the torque than HP and these numbers are not what every one gets. I have seen 20 or more HP gain but its no problem. I will explain more later. Now the next thing Todd did was the Underdrive pulleys, well he gained almost 15 RWHP, he jumped from 252.0 RWHP Max torque of 283.6 to 267 RWHP to Max torque 288.5 I feel some of this is the Missing HP from the beginning because he now has a seasoned motor, either way its impresive.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/tod2.jpg
Now then we strapped the car down and the car was tweaked to a final number of 272.7 RWHP to a Max torque of 297.3 So Todd has gained a total of 30.8 RWHP Max torque of 36.1 foot pounds, and he has done this with Chip stat plugs unerdrives gears drive shaft, I feel with the shorties headers and high flow cats he will be very close to 300 RWHP this is dam good, no matter what any one says.
Now the last sheet is George's car and he made every ones jaw drop he has a bone stock no Mods his base line was 235.8 RWHP Max torque of 245.7, with dyno tune and chip he gained 260.4 RWHP Max Torque of 287.5. So as you can see the numbers change from car to car, bottom line is when were done your car is transformed, into nothing it was before.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1051492414-George.jpg
So bottom line every one had a great day I will have dyno sheets next week with the exhaust Mods and will have them for the club after that, and I have started on the Vortech kit, I will keep every one posted and thank you for your support.

These numbers are certainly making me salvate. I can't wait to get the mods in mine.
This thread is making me take a second look at pullys, which I didn't think I wanted.
My major concern is with me on the opposite end of the country, who is going to fine tune mine to get the most from it!

Just got back from driving the girls to school (wife has jury duty today-that's what she gets for hating the Marauder)...

Thanks to Todd for twisting my arm to go ahead-------what a great ride home:D ----talk about getting bang for your buck----WOW!!!
Thanks Dennis
Dennis...
Your phone SHOULD be ringing off the hook this morning!!!
Anybody who is "on the fence" regarding the Steeda Pulley Kit, I learned some info (411 as my friend Mac would say) from the Ford guys that were at the session this weekend. Apparently, the Marauder got a new/never used before on production alternator system. (maybe one of you Ford wrenches can explain the specifics)
Basically, what I was told is our unique system is virtually MADE for underdrives. The system will not allow the loss of volts that you may be scared of. Believe me, I was sceptical about them as some of you are...spoke with some of my friends here...got "mixed reviews", but took the step and could NOT be happier.
Just my 297.3 RWTQ's worth (sounds better than .02)

Congrats TAF, I know how you feel. I am amazed that we have almost identical performance specs. I like that, predictability and stability across the platform. This is one great automobile, and the guys helping us build them up, are terriffic. Adding up my investment, it's all been worth every penny. Again, congrats Todd, I real happy for you!
Just following your lead, Sarge. Without your detailed posts and Dennis' guidance...I wouldn't have what I have today.
Thank you!!!

Hey guys, I’m a little confused. Did the Ford Chip guys reflash your ECM to or just your chip? I'm a little concerned that the dealer may wipe out the ECM on some unannounced revision.
Just Curious

Todd and George both got chips
I had the choice. I wanted and got the chip flashed so if there is ever a problem, I pull the chip and I'm back to stock for diagnosis.

No the Marauder alternator pulley is the same size so there is no need to change it but I do increase the engine RPM by 200 the car idles low with out UDP

My idle is at approx. 700 (hard to be exact with the lack of markings between 500-1000, but it is not quite halfway). According to others here, the Volt gauge works and is accurate(at least from 10-16 or throughout, unlike the Oil gauge which is essentially an ON/OFF)
With the underdrives, my Volts do not go below 12 at idle with all accessories on. There is only upside of increased power with them in my opinion.
There's the answer....So......about that Million $s?

TAF--you're the envy of us all (those of us still without Dennis' mods and a fordchip tune, that is)!!! Kudos to both Dennis and the FordChip guys! Matt, I also e-mailed, and received a reply from FordChip regarding their Los Angeles-area tuning session. They had no dates whatsoever yet, but they said they would "keep me posted."
