View Full Version : Stock 8-Rib Conversion kit?

I searched and see where there were a couple conversions to 8-rib (FordNut?) but no specific part numbers for what needed to change.
I'm looking to complete my STOCK belt system conversion to 8-Rib. I would prefer to use Billit pieces if available but will take factory pullies since they are usually gloss black. Would really like a billet water pump pulley since the Damper is billet. Idlers would be sweet too...
Anyway, if you have part numbers for the a/c compressor, p/s pump and the alternator, let me know. Also, what 8-rib belt fits the stock length?
Thanks in advance!
john
Alternator: F65Z-10344-AA
PS Pulley: 2L3Z-3A733-AB
A/C Pulley: XR3Z-8678-BA
Harmonic Balancer: 98 Navigator. Dont have part # but the innovators west is so much cooler.
You NEED a 98 Cobra timing cover with tensioner. The pulley on the tensioner will be fine.
The idler pulley that goes right above the tensioner comes off the stock Marauder cover.
Good luck.

Thanks Zack! Here's the damper from Innovators West with my blower pulley mounted to it. It's an 8-rib unit and that's why I want to convert the rest. Mosty for car show points etc.
What about the water pump? Does an 8-rib go over that? What I would really like is a billet pulley there to match the damper. Same with the various Idlers.
You also mentioned the 98 Cobra front cover. How is that different from the Marauder piece that we cannot use ours? I say this because I've sent a cover off to the powder coaters with my other lower intake last week to get done in gloss black.
Thanks again for the list of the other pulleys. If I can't find billet replacements for them I will order the ones you listed.
Cheers!
John
PS: here's the damper from HELL:

Isn't the stock idler pulley on the MM cover also a 6- rib?????? Clerify this, please.

Didn't Shaun Hyland have a 8 rib kit?

Yes but there are no Ford 8-rib specific Idlers that will do in this case. (A diesel truck might have what we need, but you have to buy the idler in kit form.
The stock Marauder idler is just wide enough for the 8-rib belt.
John, you can use your stock cover. Afterall, the gusto is going to be on a seperate blower pulley.
There is a larger diameter idler available, I believe off a 2 valve crown vic. I have the part # at home, I will post it tonight.

I got it now. I thought you were talking about the ribbed idler pulley. My bad.
Great info.

Sorry to say that Zack will never achieve this certification, it's well out of his reach.

the 98 front cover uses the better tensioner. you cant bolt the good cobra tensioner to the marauder ft cover. there are no bosses for it.

This is some great info everyone. Keep contributing! When I have all the part numbers and worked through the upgrade, I'll post a "Sticky" with all the contributed info so anyone else can just follow the recipe to do this too.
Still need info on the water pump pulley. I know id doesn't need ribs so we just need to find the correct width one for this to work.
Thanks again everyone!
John
ps: JD, you'll just have to wait like everyone else!

Old thread I know. I came across a post on another forum where a cobra guy suggested using F150 parts to make an 8-rib conversion. See post quoted below. Would this also work for us?
"Or spend a little over 150$ and buy F150 8 rib pulleys.
4.6L 8-Rib Conversion Pulleys ford part #s:
Alternator pulley GP-720
Power steering pulley XL3Z-3A733-AA
A/C Clutch pulley YB-542 you will also need outside face plate
Tensioner 1L3Z-6B209-AA
Crank pulley XL3Z-6312-CA most
Idler pulley YS-250 - My factory ones were to thin, use f150,lighting ect.
Water pump pulley F6TZ-8509-AA - Use your factory"

Is there a sticky for this?
I just cross checked some part numbers.
The alternator pulley GP-720 also goes by PN F652-10344-AA, which is the number Zack indicated in an earlier post.
It seems the PS pulley could be either XL3Z-3A733-AA or 2L3Z-3A733-AA, which is also mentioned in Zack's post.
The AC pulley YB-542 (#F7UZ-19D784-AA) - EDIT: Per Post #16, this doesn't fit Marauders. The part for Marauders is YB-3064 (#5C2Z-19D784-DA)

The YB 542 does not fit a Marauder A/C unit (have one i need to get rid of) the correct A/C pulley for the Marauder is YB 3064.
Here is the stock 6 rib next to the 3064 8 rib

Thank you @Motown! Just bought the A/C Pulley for $44 plus shipping in ebay. I updated post #15 with the information you provided. Any input as to the correct part number for the water pump pulley?

I used the water pump pulley that came with the Vortech mounting bracket, but im going to run a Meizere electric water pump which comes with a huge idler pulley.

I had to switch to the long style water pump and ran a 99ish 5.4 truck pulley.

@BigM460 you didn't have to switch to that pump to accommodate an 8-rib setup did you? In your opinion, would changing to the 99ish 5.4 truck pulley suffice to convert to 8-rib?

Had to change the pump to fit the pulley. Not sure if its a must, but most of the mustang 8 rib swaps I saw had to go with the long pump. Unless you plan on big boost and racing it, DON'T mess with a 8 rib swap! Was a major pain in the tail! Guess it wouldn't be to bad to do again, but the learning curve. Wow!

Bummer. I did some reading after reading your post. Saw some have chosen to not change pumps, but rather use spacers. What's your take on using spacers instead?
Thanks!

The pump is super easy to change, and doesn't cost much.
Compared with everything else the water pump is simple.

Do any if you guys know of other 8-rib O/D Harmonic Balancers besides Innovators West and ATI? Also, any leads on a used 10% OD one of either brand would be appreciated.
