I believe the panther you are referring to is the plastform of the CV and MM.

A panther is a Town Car, Grand Marquis, Crown Victoria, and a Marauder. The three gauge pod is only possible if you had a one gauge pod and a two gauge pod. Donny Carlson and Martyo have had theirs covered in leather to hide the ulgy screws and look of raised plastic.

The Panther platform is Ford Motor Company (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Motor_Company)'s large, rear-wheel drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rear-wheel_drive) sedan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedan) automobile platform (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_platform). It uses traditional body-on-frame (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body-on-frame) construction. It was introduced in 1978 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1978) for the 1979 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979) model year. During trying periods for Ford it was scheduled for cancellation on several occasions, as early as 1985 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985), but its appeal to some customers endures, and the Panther platform is still in production as of 2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_of_2006).
The first Panthers were the Ford LTD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_LTD) and Mercury Marquis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Marquis). Both were available in coupe, wagon, and sedan bodies. In 1981 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981), the Lincoln Town Car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Town_Car) was introduced on the Panther platform. While Lincoln coupes based on the Panther platform lasted only two years, Ford and Mercury coupes lasted until 1987 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987), and wagons were manufactured until 1991 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991). After that, only full-size (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full-size_car) four-door sedans were produced.
Vehicles that have used the Panther platform include:

Lincoln Continental Mark VI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Mark) (1980 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980) - 1983 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983))
Ford Crown Victoria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Crown_Victoria) (1992 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992) - Current)
Ford LTD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_LTD) (1979 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979) - 1982 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982))
Ford LTD Crown Victoria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_LTD_Crown_Victoria) (1983 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983) - 1991 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991))
Mercury Grand Marquis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Grand_Marquis) (1983 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983) - Current)
Mercury Marauder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Marauder) (2003 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003) - 2004 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004))
Mercury Marquis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Marquis) (1979 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979) - 1982 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982))
Lincoln Town Car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Town_Car) (1981 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981) - Current)
The Aston Martin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aston_Martin) Lagonda Vignale concept of 1995 also used a modified Panther platform. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a side note....I followed the Marauder link on Wiki and found the following information!!

Aftermarket parts availability for the Marauder is high, but expensive due to the low number of orders. Mercurymarauder.net (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/) is currently the largest online community for the 2003-2004 Marauder. Trilogy Motorsports outfits Marauders with a custom Eaton supercharger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercharger) which puts the Marauder into the 12-second 1/4 mile bracket.

Anyone else think that it's amazing how in depth wikipedia can be?Since Wiki accepts contributions, it had to be someone from here that submitted the MM.Net and Trilogy reference. It's still pretty cool.
