A friend of mine asked me a question today and it got me thinking. He asked What if they never made the MARAUDER? What car would you have gotten if they never made the MARAUDER?...I started to think for a bit of some of the heavy horsepowered cars made today and couldnt really make a decision.
I dont know if its just because im sooo happy with the MARAUDER and never gave much thought to any other cars, or if I just dont like some of the cars.
My question to all of you is What car ( High Horsepowered cars ) do you think you would be driving today if the MARAUDER was never brought to life....Im curious to see what others think...

Charger or 300C.

I would have kept my 2002 GM LSE and continued to mod it, much like the MM. I doubt I would have reached my current power level with that car, but it certainly could have come close.

Otherwise, I probably would have gone with a Cadillac or Lincoln of some sort and not gone the high-powered route.

I was well on my way to purchasing a '64 Lincoln and having it totally redone with a crazy motor and all the bells and whistles when I drove by the Ford dealer and saw my MM up on the "showcase" ramps. I did a U-turn, bought it on the spot and the rest is history. I still plan on buying my "dream" '64, but #38 will always be my first love (car that is)

My question to all of you is What car ( High Horsepowered cars ) do you think you would be driving today if the MARAUDER was never brought to life....Im curious to see what others think...

I was actually looking for a '96 Impala SS in Dark Cherry or that green color but I was not in the mood to pay high teens or better for a car with 50K+ mileage.

I would have opted for the Crown Vic LX Sport in black. The looks and styling were more important than HP ... back in the day. :D

I was actually really trying to get Roush Racing to put a blower on a Duratec Taurus (like in the 2000 Chicago Auto Show) but was always met with the same answer - "uh, ummm... we don"t make a kit for the Taurus'. That was when Tom (Marauder TJA) came to my store with the assault vehicle known as The Marauder and I changed my mind. I also looked at a Lexus GS430. Tell me this ain't a sweet Taurus!!!

I think either a retired police interceptor, a Crossfire SRT-6, or a new Charger. And I still want all of the above, but I've also added the new Challenger to the list.

Charger RT or GTO, as much as it pains me to say it. That's what was coming up at the time.

6 months ago I decided to upgrade my vehicle and decided to look for a used 05 GTO. I always admired Marauders but figured with so few made it would be hard to find a low mileage one close to me. Just for curiosity sake I went on E Bay and searched MM and found one 10 minutes from where I worked with 14K on the clock. I believe it was the car Gods looking down on me. So to make along story short (too late) I would probably have a GTO.

Cadillac CTS or Lincoln LS....I dont think I would have had as much fun with either of those, though.

I was about to do the same, but the Impala SS' I saw were closer to $20k,
and most of them had +100k miles if not close to it...

It has to be 'TRUE TO THE CORE' or else it is just a fake...

I would still have the 2001 CVLX for the "nice" car. I would have bought a P71 drpwn vic at auction and would be in the process of modding it for more horses.

I remember all the cars I wanted for a first car about 2 years ago.. My list was something like this:

86 or 87 Buick Grand National
Any Second Generation Lightning
96 Impy SS
Pontiac Firehawk Trans AM
Then I saw the Marauder and the rest is history, The other cars are all great but I have to say I am loving every minute of the marauder! One day Ill get that Grand National though... one day

At the time I got my first MM I had a Lincoln LS. I would have been on my second LS and in the process of getting rid of it for a SRT-8 product.

Hmmmm.

The Town Car would probably still be my driver instead of my wifes.

Perhaps a newer GM LSE - CV Sport or an 05+ Mustang GT convertible.

I'd love to pick up a V8 LS Sport for the wife to drive regularly, & have the Town Car back 100% under my wing so to speak.

Sometimes I think it would be neat to take a Charger nose & put it on a 300 ..... but no matter how much I might enjoy the power, I'm still not madly in love with the exterior looks of either, not to mention I'm not sure I could ever really come to accept the looks of the interior. Perhaps such a thing would make a nice one-off for the wife some day. If I wasn't driving it everyday & it really wasn't 100% under my wing ... I'd be more accepting of it.

Funny story about the time period not that long before I finally caved in to temptation on the MM .....

I was hanging out on the Buick Riviera list. A guy was moving from out west to Tennessee(IIRC) & didn't think he'd have the space to keep the car once he got settled in. He posted his desire to sell it before moving. I emailed him & asked for pics & we got to talking.

Got the pics .....

An absolutely STUNNING car ..... cept' for one very important(to me) thing.

It was not equipped with air conditioning.

Had that car been an a/c car, it would be sitting in my garage right now ... the color combo was right & all.

I more than likely would have not bought a new MM when I did.

It's a matching numbers, factory dual quad 425 1964 Riviera.

Maybe I'll hit the big lottery jackpot here & track him down & buy that Riv anyway.

I'm sure I'd have enough money to throw at it to gather up all the OEM a/c parts & have it changed over to look & function as it left the factory.

There is a link to the FULL size pics he sent here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/browseimages.php?c=3&userid=631)

Beware ..... *DUW* on a couple of them.

Rather than chop the couple large ones down ..... I'm leaving them close to original size, so you can really appreciate the car.

Here are some smaller copies :

If the Marauder was never made Id be driving one of the following...

96 imp, charger, new mustang, blackwood or range rover if i could afford it

But I doubt any of those would give me the feeling that I have when Im behind the wheel of my 2003 Trilogy Blown Marauder. :coolman:

If the production version stays true or close to this concept then it will take all of my will power not to go broke by buying it. I will not sell the Marauder for it but I would sell almost anything else that I could have been driving had the Marauder not been produced for it.

(I know that last sentence is very confusing. It is 4:14 am and I am one of only two members currently online.)

A mustang, maybe a bullitt, 40th anniversary, 35th anniversary, 94-95 cobra, 96-01 cobra, or an svt focus, svt contour, or srt-4. I prefer a rwd v8 any day to fwd i4. But those are fun cars and get decent gas mileage too so thats always good.

I think that I have made up my mind to get on the Challenger list. Pics of that car give me goosebumps. In person at the Washington Auto Show it was simply beautiful. I guess that mid-life crisis has finally arrived for me. The Blue MM will be rolled over to the SOB. :D

l was ready and excited to get the new GTO when it came out. Then I saw the Cavalier/Grand Am styling and the bubble was burst. Looked at the Cadillac CTS V, big money and kinda weird looking (to much Jetson's touch). Then I laid my eyes on my present 04 Silver Marauder. Fell in love and modded it to where it is faster than my Mustang, more room and more comfort. And new forged engine build and mods continues. Don't care for Chrysler products.

Maybe a S/C'd H-D F-150 is where I probably would have gone.

Luckily I saw the Marauder prototype in a magazine and said: "I can wait for that Bad Boy!!!"

I actually looked at CV LX Sport first and took it out for a test drive. Unfortunately, it was in Ice Blue and no Black CVs were available. It was OK; but didn't "excite" me especially in the really light blue. 60 minutes later I was grinning in a Blue MM and working the numbers in my head. For the $3K difference, there was no comparison.... the wife agreed ... and the deal was done. :D

Now here is another question.

If you knew that there were no mods available ( S/C, Tuners, Chips, TQ, Gears, ) nor were there any plans for mods to ever being available, Would you still have bought the Marauder? Would you put your $$ on something else that would be able to be modded up, or purchase the MM just for the love of the car and not caring about all the extra mods?

I WOULD BE WALKING!
STILL DRIVING MY 85 MONTE CARLO CL, which I still drive to and from work Orlando to Miami.
I was not looking for a new car. I just saw it at the dealership and went goo goo gaa gaa for it. Did not think about mods until a year later and found MM.net and i've been broke ever since but happy like a mofo'r!

I loved the look of the MM. Something about the way it sits and the wheels hooked me! I saw the one at the Auto show in Chicago and was told Ford was looking at making one in a convertible body style. That's why I held back from the first black ones and finally bought the Silver Birch when I was told no convertible one's were coming.

I have two boys (ages 3-6) and was looking for a nice big old convertible -Impala, Caprice,Galaxy or LTD (big block of course) to cruise around in but I did not want to rebuild one. I already have enough crap on my plate and really didnt need the old car headaches. After seeing the MM I couldn't resist. Then I saw a DTR and bought that one too.

I now have two full size cars that can haul all the kids, the groceries, the wife and I can still whip the neighborhood ricers! :banana2: It doesnt get much better then that.
