Hey guys, just for conversations sake, if I were going to buy another 4.6 for the Marauder what would some of you reccomend? Let's stay within the general idea that the motor is going to be kept N/A. What would be a nice replacement crate engine? Something with more power perhaps than the stock 4.6, but that could still be driven often.
I don't need a new motor right now, but I'm just curious as to what's out there. I did see Sean Hyland's web site, but I don't know much about Hyland Motorsports. Actually I don't know much about Ford engine builders, that's why I'm asking. :D

Thanks man! Oh, sweet! I've never seen that Mach 1 shaker before! I wonder if it would fit our Marauders?
Oh, BTW, I was just looking around on Sean Hyland's web site and I didn't know he made parts for the Marauder! How come I don't read about many members using any of his parts?

Sean hyland is an expensive name let alone the parts(i think that was why not to sure though)

Price. SHM puts too high a price on parts that we can get as good or better at lower cost elsewhere.

I haven't heard of any plans to reproduce our InTech 4V DOHC engine, nothing in the FMC forecast as I read it.
Seems like all the party favors are going to the 3V SOHC 4.6L engine, ala '05 and '06 Mustangs, and the 4V DOHC 5.4L engine in other apps.
Marauders are not only discontinued now, but it looks like we earmarked the end of the road for 4V DOHC engines too.
What a shame too...

LOL, I did a double take. That does look pretty cool... But I wonder if the "water and air diverter" would have to be reworked to make it fit in the Marauder engine bay, what don't you guys think?

Hey Bryan et all......
Just my 2 cents, but I think the shaker takes away from the distinctive profile a little. If I was gonna trick the hood out the hood an L88 style hood would be my preference. Nothing radical in terms of scoop height, I just like em when the scoop starts mid hood and runs back to the winshield, like the Chevelle SS or the 68 427 Vette.
Cheers!

Ford Racing is still making the 5.0L "stroker" built off of the 4.6L DOHC.
Over 400 hp N/A.

Ford Racing is still making the 5.0L "stroker" built off of the 4.6L DOHC. Over 400 hp N/A. I disagree. Ford/Ford Racing offers several big bore and stroker kits for pushrod engines, but not the mod motors.
They do offer a 5.0L aluminuim block (M-6010-T50) nicknamed the "cammer" block, a fresh treatment of a big bore. It uses the 4.6L crank and rods, with a 3.70" bore, rather than the stock 3.55" The bare block is 3K, but you can buy the cast iron cylinder sleeves for 50 bucks each, if you want to grind out your stock block.

Seems like it'd be money better spent to buy the brandy new cobra supercharged motor than to add a kit!

It also uses the 4.6L block and 4 valve heads!

Yepper. I was eyeing those. For someone who is starting the mod process that may be a good investment. You get the motor, supercharge and all for 7500. You can upgrade the Eaton for 4-500 bucks, add a pull;ey and push an easy 450 to the wheels safely. Of course it would take a little work. :)

You two are talking bout the same engine. Mac's is the block only and Krytins is the whole kit and kaboodle.

I would go with a shortblock since I can do all the headwork myself. I myself like the Sean Hyland 5.2L(322 c.i.d.) shortblock they have on this page (http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/gt-cobra-shortblocks.shtml) . It doesn't say what HP it's capable of handling but it should be pretty good for bottom-end torque, which is what some folks think we need here most. Only $5995!
But I must say that 1600 HP capable shortblock on the same page looks mighty good to a turbo-minded guy like me that likes to think high rpm. It's at the track where I get a timeslip, not on the street. Only $8995! Still, the Cobra billet is less than the 5.2L and 1000 HP capable. At 4.6L, the only way you can get 1000 HP is from some pretty high rpms.
Bad part is you'd have to get a different tachometer.:P

Very true - my bad!
It had been so long since I looked at the over/high priced thing that I couldn't remember if it was stroked, bored or stroked/bored.

It's all good, gents, and I have to admit that the bare block is quite seductive. But, not at 3 large...

Is the idea of a 5.4 L (whether 2, 3 or 4 valve) available and fit in our cars?
If my engine goes--even though I only have a boost of 7 psig eventually to 10+ depending on what others are doing with success, I'll be ready to act fast to get my car on the road.

Is the idea of a 5.4 L (whether 2, 3 or 4 valve) available and fit in our cars? The quick answer, John, is no. The 5.4L is about two inches wider and taller than the 4.6L, and custom fabrication will be necessary to squeeze a 5.4L into a Marauder engine bay. It can be done, but it's expensive and time consuming.

I thought for sure that a two valve would be a far smaller engine.
I saw a 1970's Chevelle with a 427 CID and it looked so much smaller than my engine. But it must be that the Chevelle has a larger body.
I keep trying.
Thank you.

I won't say which is the thoroughbred, but you would wind up with a mutt car.
Best to keep with the 4.6L modular platform.
Think I'll go plug in "Seabiscuit" now. :D

Yeah, But it would be the meanest, fastest 'Mutt' in the world!
427 FE or a 514 385 series in a Marauder....:hmmm:...sounds pretty good to me.
Now I wonder if you could stuff a 427 SOHC in between the fenders....That's the original CAMMER!!!!

If it was an FE I'd go with the 428. Lots more bottom-end torque with that 4" stroke. Still the hood problem though.
Then again, a junkyard 460 with a cam, headers and a modern PFI intake system might fit as is.

In regards to SHM, I warn all to stay away. I have tried to deal with them twice and both transactions and attempted transactions, were, to be kind, very very poor.
extremely bad in my dealings, and I only speak of mine, some others might be happier than a pig in mud with SHM, I was not, and would do without, rather than deal with again

I wasn't intending to put the 427 CID in my car.
I was just making the observation that our engines look much smaller than the 289 CID that we now have when I look at it under the hood.

Well, what he said ^^^^^.
Trying to get an order through your door step is like trying to win a 10 numbers lottery on the first try !! I had to cancel the order (a set of cams) after three months (they didn't have the core yet to be able to grind them) of excuses and had to fight another 6 weeks to have my money back. A nice place to make business with. I really recommend them. Really.
