I am trying to load my excal 2 with my xtr. file. I have done it before. But now I am getting a Com port error. and for reson #5. I have talked to sct and my com port is set at the right number but they said something is blocking my usb port. He asked if I have virus software and I do have norton but I cant figure out how or what to do. Any computer guys out there that can help. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jason

I can not answer your question. But you may want to check the forums at www.sctflash.com (http://www.sctflash.com)

Try this:

if you have more than one USB port, try plugging it into the other ports until it works. I know that USB memorizes the actual port you plugged the cable into and will assign a different COMx port number to each.

I am useing the extreme tuner software and you can change the port on the software. I have gone to system and checked to see what port I am on then makeing sure the software is set to that com port. I talked to a guy at sct and he said something is blocking my ports. Maybe my virus software is what he said. But I am unsure of what to do. It worked the first 3 times I used it and now its poop. So I have no idea. But according to everything it should be working. Any more ideas. I will check the sct site again. Thanks

If you suspect Norton, right click the norton icon in your taskbar (lower right) and uncheck "Realtime Protection"

I'm not sure why Norton would do this though, I doubt it's the problem. Unfortunately I'm not all that familiar with hooking up the Xcal2 to a computer, I've not tried that with mine yet. :(

Go to your device manager. (Rt click my comp, properties, Dev mang tab) Make sure the usb to serial connector does not show up. It's probly there and shows a problem. With it unplugged, Right click on it and uninstall.

Then, plug it in. If it does not auto discover (you'll see Device manager flash, the list change, and it will appear), then right click in the white space (double-right click if XP) and click scan for hardware changes. This initiates 'Plug anf Pray'. Once the USB-serial is rediscovered, it will get the next available com port assigned to it and off-you-go.

Good luck

It ain't norton. Consumer versions don't monitor USB.

Only true if using multiple USB-com devices at the same time. By definition USB does not have a particular com# associated with a physical port.

I had a similar problem getting it to datalog.

Leave the com port window blank. It should automaticly find it..

If not just change computers.

I had similar problems with my Xcal. After trying numerous ports and Com combinations, It turned out that I had to use COM 5 for the usb to work, Also make sure your connections are tight and clean.

ok I have tried everything I can think of. I have looked at the sct forums. I dont think I can take this much longer. It worked the first three times I used it now its kaablooie. I am begining to think this was all just a big waste of money. Sct doesnt even know what the problem is. HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it also erased my #1 tune out of the three. Thats just super. Went to load that one and said no file.

well, I never could get it fixed. I am pretty pissed off at this point. Sct just says its my virus software that is stopping them from communicating. Dont even know what to say. Starting to get tired of my car now. bought a tune from reinhart and cant even use it. Boy this is f--in great. What a waste of money. Dont like driving it right now couse its running rich and when on full throttle it pulls then doesnt then it does again and so on. sick of my car and trying to get everything workin right.

I bet if you send it back to Dennis with a nice letter asking for help he will load the tunes on the XCal and send it back. Heck, send the files and the tuner to me and I'll do it too.

Otherwise, decaf maybe?

I've had some problems before just like this. What I did was reload both Live link and extreme tune. You must unistall the programs before you reload them. There was a few versions of both that has had some bugs too. This very well could be your problem. I reselected the com port a couple times it started work. You can give me a call if you like and I'll help you get it loaded.

I am more inclined to believe that the USB serial driver is just not happy with the computer. It is definitely the serial driver. As will most computer support issues, you really have to have the patient sitting in front of you when you work on it.

Good luck with the upgrade. It will happen.

So the XCalibrator didn't work on your neighbors PC either?

Do you have anything that is using the USB ports now? Have you looked at the System properties to see if there are any errors with the USB ports?

Do other USB devices work when you plug them into the port?

Have you done anything to the inside of the PC? Maybe the connector for the USB inside of the PC came loose.

Did you remember installing anything before your XCal stopped working?

All usb ports work properly and the digital cam and ipod. The xcal worked perfect the first few times I used it. Then it all of the sudden quit. I didnt load any new software to disrupt it. I am getting an error. I bring up extreme tune and pic the tune to be loaded and I plug in the xcal 2 via usb. I then hit program and it brings up the other program page and I hit program. Then I get a com port 4 error prblem #5. Then I get a xcal loopback error. And I have checked over and over and its set to the right com port. I have uninstalled and reinstalled over and over and no luck. I get the same thing every time. Could my xcal go bad? I am calling SCT today sometime.

Now I can load the tune and make adjustments. Finally after almost 3 weeks of poop. Thanks again for all your help. Now if I can get this workin right with the T/Converter I will be happy. any one with a sct .XTR file with a T/C that are happy with their tune? I just want it to be runnin good to take it to the strip. I really want a 13 bad. thanks
