I've been looking up how to install my used chip I got and I'm seeing that I need the same ECU code as the ECU that it was removed from. I was wondering is this true or does it not matter once you plug it in will it reflash. Also would I be able to plug it in and see if it works and if not can I just unplug it and undo the battery and have everything back to stock???

When you install a chip, it does not flash your EEC, it overlays it. When you take it out, it's gone with no remnants on the EEC, except the hole in the case for access to the PCB.

Chips should be calibrated to the EEC code, some features may not work correctly with unmatched codes. Maybe you should call Dennis and ask him to diagnose? One other thing, the "off the shelf" tunes have really improved since we graduated from plug-in chips, it may be worth your investment to purchase some fresh tunes too.

OK thanks Mac. Since it wont flash it I'll plug her in and see what happens mainly just wanted something to fix the tranny shifts and couldnt afford a handheld tuner at the moment.

Darth...One of the problems we had with chips, was they work loose. Throw a patch of duct tape over it?

Mark...Sorry, I should have included a TX. Thanks!

Thanks Mac I'll do that. Well the chip is for a BMDO and I have a FDH2 PCM so I will be putting in a call to Lidio. I would call Dennis but I'm only about an hour drive from Lidio so I can just drive to his shop.

Also I installed it just to see what it would do and got a no start.

Double check and make sure you got all the Blue Gook off of the connector.

You can't mix and match codes, it won't work. Also, do not have your keys anywhere near the car when installing the chip. If you trip or damage the PATS its going to get exspensive.

I believe the cleaning solved the current issue. He is doing a test drive now. Hopefully, he will join us afterwards!

It started with cleaning the connections and drives quicker can feel some more power but the 1-2 shift does not feel right. Goes like a bat out of hell at WOT then when it hits about 30 it slows up and kinda bogs its way to 40 then shifts into 2nd. Does it with overdrive on or off. Pull the chip and drove it stock and drives and shifts like normal. Should I let her idle a while to get it to set everything or am I supposed to be able to plug her in and drive.

As I stated above, if the code on the chip does not match the code on the car's ECU it will need to be reburned to match your specific ECU parameters to function properly. The car's ECU is a learning unit, but will not compensate for incorrect data.

Yea I pulled it and am awaiting call back from Lidio. May just get the chip dyno tuned for the time being seeing as I have no engine mods planned for a while. Will post an update when I decide what to do. Figures I check the PCM poll from a while back and I have one of the rarest PCMs at least according to the poll.
