For those of you that have a full size spare, are the spokes face down or face up. I got a polished rim as a spare :D and wasn't sure which way it faced, so I put the spokes face down.
Also anyone interested in a donut spare? Used two day last year while I waited for my fronts to come in.

face up!! and you'll love the super fine thread pitch of the hold down screw, onyl takes 100 turns to get it off of there!

You prolly had to mount it face down DJ, because mounting it face up requires a lug and collar that's different from what comes with the mini-spare.

Mac have a pic of that "lug and collar" as I currently have it face down? Not handy, maybe later today? The mini-spare get a short hook with a flat washer and large wing nut, at least my 300B did. My 300 A came with a long hook, and a plastic collar maybe just as long, and it's threaded, no wing nut. B!thch to work with...

Yeah the 300B's and '04's come with the mini spare, hook, metal washer and wing nut. Now my hook is long and not short.

I think, looking back on my full spare, that if I was switching from donut to full, I would go to the HW store and get a threaded hook about 9" long and a big washer and a piece of rubber to make a rubber washer out of and a wing nut to fit the threads on the hook. That plastic collar is a PITA and simply not worth the trouble. Of course the rubber washer would be to protect the wheel from being scratched by the metal washer.
I suppose if one could find a cone similar to the stock cone, that might be nice or even cut the cone part off the stock piece and use the hook/wing-nut strategy anyway.
Just thoughts, if they help.

So, still got that spare? I wouldn't mind having something I can put on my car temporarily if I have my rims sent out for widening. (Not to drive, just to sit) I'd need to borrow something so it can sit on rubber, I got on donut spare already. :)
If I go that route, I may be interested in it.

Didn't the bag with the jack come with the long shaft for a full size tire??? A few of our members here who had the doughnut stated that it is in there with the jack.

Found this out when I got a flat on Saturday night on my way back from Dallas....if you have the small spare there should be an adapter in your jack kit to hold the full size rim and tire face up, that connects to the hook mount.

Ahh... So that's what that is with my jack. Couldn't for the life of me figure it out because my car has the doughnut spare. Now I know!

Mine is face up and its not that bad if you loosen it a few turns, then you can pull the tire toward you, then reach underneth and loosen the hold down the rest of the way.
Crappy design but the spare is secure

The worst design. My full size spare was so tight (from the factory) and hard to reach that it took me well over 30 minutes to loosen the first time I needed it. Now I keep it a little loose so that I won't have to go through that again.

I put my full size spare upside down. I didn't know there were extra parts in with nthe jack. I used foam to cover the hook. I'll have to look and hope it worked....

Is there a way one can tell if their car originally came with a full size or a doughnut spare? Only reason I ask is because I bought mine used with a doughnut, but the tire cover seems to big and it keeps falling of the hump.

All 2004s have traction control.

Question #1. Anyone have the part number for the spare? I went to the dealership and they quoted me $649.00 for a rim but did not know if it was for the spare or the polished rim.
Question #2. If I got the same size rim and tire that is on the back, would it hurt to put it on the front if using as a spare?
Question #3. Should I just forget about it and stick with the doughnut?

Question #2. If I got the same size rim and tire that is on the back, would it hurt to put it on the front if using as a spare? The wheels are the same front and rear. The difference in height between the front size tire and the rear size tire is 1.36", therefore, you would have a tilt, perhaps a pulling, towards one side.
You should be okay if just trying to get to the next repair shop. But, the longer you drive this way, the greater the chance of damage to the tires, possibly the suspension. ABS and TC will react with alarms.

Yeah, I thought the rims were the same size, I just thought they had two different part numbers between the front and rear rims, so I wasn't sure.
It would be for temp use only. I just thought it would be better for the rear axel to get a rim with the same size tire that is already on the back. I plan on doing a lot of traveling back and forth to Dallas area to meet up with the North Texas Marauder guys and don't want to get stuck in the middle of the night with no options. I got a flat on the way back from Dallas weekend before last at 1 a.m. and just wanted to have something a little more solid than a donut incase I have to drive a couple of hundred miles before being able to get the tire repaired.
So if the abs and tc alarms activate, will they go back to normal operation when you put the normal tire back on or do you need to take her in to get serviced? ( insert joke here ):D

ABS will reset when you shut off the ignition, TC can be shut off by the dash switch.

FWIW I put a 235/50 on my spare. Most flats are going to be in the front as that is the lead tire. Not saying you can't get a flat in back but 9 chances outta 10 the front is going to go first. JMHO
