Folks:

I have a 2004 with 34K on it. I have had no problems other than a squeek in the dash up to now. There has been discussion related to possible thermostat problems. Is there any area that I should be mindful of as the warranty expires.:)

Thank You:

I never had a thermostat problem on my 04. At near 37k miles I've only had two seat heater lights blink and a bulb go out in the now replaced Oil pressure gauge. I could not have asked for a better automobile, personally.

Tinktoy,
Check out your axels. Many, many of us have had to have them changed with the Ford kit. A Ford dealer that services police service cars is used to
checking for this and it is much cheeper to have done while in warrenty.
They have a listening device.

Buy a (Ford ESP) extended warranty. Average A/C repair is $1200. To pay for the axle kit would be around $900 installed. Window regulator, $300. Piece of mind for around $1200 depending on deductible and coverage period. Aftermarket warranties cover less, often make you wait for an adjuster to inspect the vehicle and wait for payment.

Don't ask, don't tell.

The thermostat stuck on mine at 52K resulting in an engine replacement. Axles and bearings were replaced at about 72K. All under the extended warranty I purchased when I bought the car new. Costs, lets see, new\rebuilt engine, apprx. $6000. Axles\bearings\3rd member rebuild, a guess at $2500. Total cost to me, $150! Cost of extended warranty, $1000. Oh, and while the dealer had the car for the engine replacement, the front windshield got broken, replaced by dealer, no cost to me. Just my $.02s!

I would advise you not to get the extended warranty. I got 94,500 miles on mine and it hasn't given me any problems. If anythings gone wrong it was because of me as most of you know :D and the only problem that keeps occuring is the two plastic pieces inside the car on the drivers and passengers door keep falling off. Those black things by the mirrors. Just glue them back on and your good to go. My alternator had to be replaced and was 300 bucks and the extended warranty for me was $1,200 so it hasn't really paid for itself yet. Then again some people on here have had many problems and they don't drive like I do either. So the choice is yours, but if I had to do it over again I'd pass simply because nothing goes wrong or not enough things go wrong for the warranty to save you money.

You are correct ( only applied to 2003s ).

...rear axle noise in their 2003 model year Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis or Lincoln Town Car.

The bulletin applies to models produced before 1-1-2003 and includes all models except those using a Limo and Hearse chassis.

I have mechanical breakdown insurance thru my insurance carrier, and they will fix anything that an ESP wouldn't. Dedutible is higher than ESP, but even if I spilled my drink into my stereo it would be coverd....ESP wont do that.....but most insurance co.'s dont offer this coverage. Just my .02 worth.

P.S. Before you ask, yes the drink in the stereo thing did hapen to me when I got rear ended several years ago, believe it or not I had just bought the tea and it was in a mug with a lid, some how except for the ice, the entire liquid contents went into the stereo, nothing else was wet, not the carpet, not even the dash. Cant explain it.....just a freak of nature.
