I had my first oil change by the dealer about 2 months ago and will be getting another one sometime in the end of May or begining of June. I'd rather not put the 5w20 Ford oil in it, so what kind of oil would be good to use? I'm not s/c or turbo'ed.....yet, just have a k&n drop-in filter, 40 series flows and 2.5" pipe from h-pipe back, res delete tips and GMS COP thanks to Wes. I will be getting a Xcal2, K&N FI kit, intake spacer by the time I get the next oil change. Anyone using Royal Purple, Mobil 1, etc and noticed any difference in anything besides an empy wallet?

I have decided to stay with Motorcraft 5W-20 as recommended by FORD.
After break-in I had switched to all "synthetic"....but noticed the
dreaded "blue smoke" on start up on (one or two) occasions. I have
since gone back to Motorcraft 5W-20....and just like magic no
more smoke in the last 6,000 miles with two oil changes.
Gotta Love It!:rasta:

easy fellows lol im just wondering what oil everyone uses, no fights here. it would take a lab to prove which oil is really better than the other.

Mobile-1, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Ford's synthetic blend, take your pick ....just make sure it's 5W20 ....no exceptions :nono:

Motorcraft 5W-20 is actually Conoco HydroClear and has turned out to be an outstanding oil. If I didn't have the blower, that's exactly what I'd be using. But to answer your question, I'm currently using a 50/50 blend of Mobil 1 5W-20 and 5W-30. The new SM formulation is a bit thicker than the SL, and the blend makes the resulting viscosity the same as the old 5W-30 spec.

There is a service message or TSB or the like from Ford stating they switched from 5W30 to 5W20 because there was no impact to engine life and it improved fuel economy (I wonder if emissions had something to do with it too). I read it on a Mustang board back when for made the switch. So, I don't have a link or anything. You'll have to trust me. With gas prices the way they are, I think you'd want to stick with 5W20.

Is any specific viscosity recommended for Super Charger Use?

hey, if you really want to get into some oil threads, there's a whole site dedicated to it:

I have used the lucas stuff in older engines. I wonder if it would stop the valve tick at start-up due to dry heads.
Has anyone used it in their MM yet?

FWIW, my DTR seems to be happier with 5w-20, specifically Royal Purple, than 5w-30 Mobil 1. After reading RF's post, I may try a 5-20/30 Royal Purple cocktail on my next change.

I use a 50/50 water and grenadine.

is the motorcraft 5w-20 they put in the marauder's full syn oil? It's synthetic blend.
also does anyone use the lucas oil adder stuff? ...didn't know if it would hurt to add it on my next oil change. While it might not hurt anything, most oil additives do little or nothing in a modern, well-cared for engine in sound condition using modern oil. I definitely would NOT use it in any motor I cared about.
Is any specific viscosity recommended for Super Charger Use?Not that I'm aware of. IMHO an oil with the least amount of viscosity index improvers would stand up better under the added stress (won't shear out of grade). Most true synthetics have little or no VII, so that was one of the reasons for my choice of Mobil 1.
After reading RF's post, I may try a 5-20/30 Royal Purple cocktail on my next change. That *may* not be the best idea. I'm trying to achieve a specific viscosity (56/10), and my 50/50 brew of Mobil 1 does just that. Royal Purple's viscosity is most likely very different from Mobil 1 and may not achieve the same results. I'll clarify this when I get home and check my oil specs spreadsheet.

What he said, but once you start using one blend never switch to another. I did that once and my vehicle; at the time, started leaking oil (qt every 1000 miles).
