That's really nice. My dad is looking to build a bigger garage at my folk's place in the next few years, he said he'll build it so a lift can be put in. We've peeked at them, something like this is what we'd get.

The big question is do you want a lift with the four support arms like that, or one where you drive the car up on the "ramps" and it lifts up with all four wheels on the metal rails.

I think each may have their pros and cons, obvously the ramp version is good for long term storage...any other pros/cons?

On the ramp version also, you have to use a bottle jack to get the wheels off the metal rails to take the tires off.

I find it more difficult to work under a drive on lift since the drive on plates take up a lot of space and get in the way. I like the two post lift. I wish I could afford one and had the room for it.

I thought about a lift like that one, but opted for the Drive on 4 post lift. It was a great price on the lift and the accessories sealed the deal. Came with the wheel/caster kit which makes moving it even with a car on it a 2 person job. They also threw in drip trays, jack trays, and other things i forget about. I also liked the fact it came set up for 110 volt. Not to mention Free shipping. $1899, no tax if you live outside CA.

That is an awsome lift Dave. Are there any special prep for the concrete floor? Like floor foundation and concrete thickness?

These are lifts that I have been looking at for a while now. Actually went to their Delaware show-room last Sat. They are pretty cool. The one for me is going to be the Direct lift Pro Park 7. I got to feel, touch, smell, and operate it. It will do the trick quite well. 110v 1hp motor built in the USA. Just plug it into the wall outlet, or use an extension. The rest of it is from China. :( You can use bottle jacks or get the RJ-3500 4 post lift accessory for it. It is a hydraulic lift the slides on the tracks and a hand pump lifts it. Gregsmithequipment.com is having a $200 savings right now @their Delaware site. Shipping is $220. The problem with that is how do you unload 1500lb of steel from a flat bed? I will use a pick-up truck or rent a trailer from U-Haul $29 and go get it and work off of that platform instead. All you need is 4in of concrete floor, which is pretty standard. The lifting and the storing, getting another car below is key. Go to the web site and check it out. TRhere even is a video demo you can see. :D

Thanks Charlie,
You should look into one when you get settled into the new place. It took me a year to get ready for mine. I was told that the standard thickness of the garage floor should be sufficient for the 4 post. When I consulted a couple of equipment distributors, they all said the 4 post is easier on the floor because it spreads the pressure of the weight over a wider area, basically dividing up the weight by four, yielding less pressure on the floor than the one in the first post in this thread. It sounds reasonable. I also like the fact that with the wheel caster kit 2 people can move the lift and relocate it. The convienience factor is the best thing. Hard to beat the price, no shipping cost and accessories. Think about it Charlie....would be a nice addition to that awesome garage you got there!

I've used lifts like these for years and (for my personal garage) I'd buy the four post lift. Much safer and still able to do most of the same things as on the two post lift. Actually it could be set up to do alignments and I'd bet there's a few Hunter D111 alignment computers out there to be gotten for a song.

The two post lifts are only as good as the install and user. I've seen some installed well with a car on them you'd swear was about to fall off and it was steady as a rock, and then I knew a guy that had a car fall on him from one of those. Not me. They're great for speed and versatility (except for the alignment use) but they'll never be as safe as a four post ramp style lift.

Oh, and somebody fix that "add to cart" button. I clicked it and it started to open the secure site page for the lift.

 yeah yeah...

This big ole garage I have has 1 (one) wall outlet. Electric will be done soon. I plan on a sub panel to run everything seperate from the house.

Thanks for the info.
