View Full Version : Order at invoice

Hi -

I finally found a dealer that will let me order a new MM and pay the invoice price. In Iowa, even.

Any suggestions on what I should be looking for? Is there some loophole I am missing? Am I going to order this and then find out about a bunch of hidden costs? Sorry - just sounds too good to be true. All they want is a $500 deposit.

Any options I should definitely get? I don't think I need any of them, but those of you with them might know differently having had the cars for a while.

Also, does anyone have any clue what next month's incentives will be? I was just told over the phone today that if I order by the 5th I will be able to choose whichever incentives are better -- the ones during ordering, or the ones during delivery (or if it takes 8 weeks the ones between the two).

I have never ordered a new car before, so any suggestions will be met with great appreciation.

Oh, and before anyone suggests otherwise, it will be black if it's anything! :banana2:

Thanks all for any help offered!

You should have on paper the price you were promised, tax, title, tag and the out the door total, if this figure is satisfactory to you have the sales manager sign it and then you can give then the deposit. That should keep you from a bait and switch, also make sure a full description of the vehicle with the options you want is on that paper. Best of luck.

duhtrol - Heated seats are nice but I don't if you will need this option. I think the factory heated seat opion is far superior to the after market and it is less expensive. John

You're welcome,I'm glad I could help.Remember what smokie said too, very important to put it ALL in writing and have the SalesManager sign it!
carbuying tips helped my son and I out last year,we both bought brand new cars in November,I hadn't bought a NEW vehicle since 1975,his was his first ever NEW car,and he'd never bought from a dealer before. Now if I could only convince him to buy an American car, well,at least it's rear wheel drive. He saved at least $3500-$5000 by buying it here near Chicago rather than where he lives in Calif.,they mark them up that much OVER MSRP there. Interestingly enough Mustang Mach's were priced over invoice here, but in Sunnyvale,CA. they were MSRP and they'd deal.

You really should order it in Blue!~!~!~
Make sure it has Traction control, if you want it. I'm not sure if they all have.

Just make sure you have the sales manager sign that you can buy at invoice. when the car comes in, check the actual invoice. Also. make sure that you can keep all of the incentives too. That is BIG MONEY

How much is Dealer'S Invoice ?

Dealer's invoice is 30,858, and that's not even what they pay for the car. I am sure they will show you an invoice that reads a couple thou higher than that, but rest assured they paid less than even the 30,858.

As for sharing the dealer name, I will be glad to -- as soon as the deal goes thru.

If it does, then no harm in sharing. If it does not, no sense wasting people's time. Dealers say lots of things to get you in the door. :D

What makes you sure they paid less than $30,858 ?

If you are ordering, they have the flexibility of the holdback, which they keep as profit, and is why they can sell the car at their cost.

If they were delivered the car from the manufacturer, there is no difference between buying one on the lot and ordering one. I am sure they will try to tell you differently, but it's the same. Scroll up for Lar's car buying tips site. It's awesome.

Most dealers also have two invoices for each car - one they show you and one they don't.

Actually there is a difference in one that's been on the lot for a while, and one you order, as far as the "holdback" is concerned anyway. The longer a car sits on a lot without being sold, the more interest accrues, and the dealer gets to keep less "holdback" . On a car you order, the dealer gets to keep the whole holdback as it is delivered as soon as he gets in on the lot.

Holdback is 3% of invoice. Roughly $1000 on Marauder, depending on options... Drop dead, I ain't makin' a penny price is $29,933 + TTL. You see a price for a new 'rauder lower than that and the dealer is losing coin on the deal, unless you finance through them...

Without having to explain it all here, dealer cost and invoice are not the same thing. Invioce price and the invoice that most dealers will produce are not even the same thing.

Check out carbuyingtips.com chapter 4.

It's tough to absorb all of this, but I swear I'll get it down before next weekend (when I make my visit to the seller).

:)

They also have info on the cost of cars sitting on the lot, and how we as buyers shouldn't be paying it.

Thanks,
