Here are some pics of my finished product. The pedal is made of laser cut 0.1" aluminum plate with a heavy brush finish. The base is laser cut 0.1" galvanized plate while the rod is cold formed 9/16" steel. The plate sits under the carpet and bolts behind the plastic harness holder. It sits at the same angle as the gas pedal at a hight of about 1/4 throttle when the pedals are all the way back. It feels very solid and very balanced. I made one to replace my prototype and one for my wifes 2000 GM. That leaves three up for grabs. Anyone interested? You can see the prototype installed in my car in the photo gallery.

What holds it in place??

RoyLPita
05-04-2006, 06:18 PM
The grip tape is all the way around so it holds in just fine on the carpet. I had to fabricate a hook for it when it was in my rubber floored '95 CVPI.

very nice. You should add a piece of bar to support the bottom. Kinda complete the whole circle for the people that stand on it. Or not, either way it looks great. I would definately be interested.

The design is very strong the way it is. Plus you can remove the floormat with no problems. I think you would be suprised how hard it is to bend 9/16" steel rod.

Anyone know if Zack and Mac are still planning on making any? I really want a dead pedal! :help: I know, and the answer is no. No dead pedal from Zack and Mac, likewise no control arms. No one wanted to invest in the real deal and that's cool, but you're on your own.

So am I.

So...How much, and where do I send my money?

BigCars4Ever

I have enough rod stock left to put together 6 more but I would need firm commitments from those six because the laser cutting wasn't cheap. It also would take a week to get the parts cause the place I use is pretty backed up.

Loosen the top bolt going thru the trim panel. Remove the bottom bolt. Add 4 washers to shim the bottom bolt out to clear the ebrake pedal. Tighten both back up.

Wish I would have known about this pedal earlier.

Nice work BC4E.

Nice work BC4E.This is close to what I did. The emergency brake does not hit the KB pedal, it hits the metal support piece. Really trying to not hijack this thread. I'm still trying to gigure out how to adjust the cable to engage sooner, if possible. Or push the pedal farther back?? That problem does not exist with this one. I bought one for my dad's Marquis and same problem. He had me take it out.

I finally found 20 minutes when we weren't coming from or going to the hospital to install my new BC4E dead pedal. I told you that the thing is stout enough for the Space shuttle, well the install is easy enough for a newby dummy just like me. I found I did not have to trim the plastic to get a very secure install. It took all of 20 minutes, including time to find my tool box and a mat for the knees; start to finish. The fit is perfect for me. I am 6'1" and shrinking:D and I like to be close to my work in the cockpit so for reference for others I tried every seat position achievable and the angle is perfect no matter where I put the seat. I think it will work for everyone except perhaps Billy Barty and maybe Elvis(his license is expired). Strong, comfortable, easy to install and just what I needed for a brace at Sebring. Thanks Ron for a perfect solution and great service. You guys who are having to wait or have not yet signed up...it is the best $45.00 I have spend on any of my cars. Dennis NOTE: I have not been compensated other than by my complete satisfaction with my purchase. Ron, I want to know first about any other ideas you have for the Marauder. thanks Dennis:beer:

I jsut installed this Dead Pedsal from BC4E, yeah its been collecting dust in the garage for two weeks at least!

I painted the thing, except the actual foot surface, even though its mostly hidden under the carpet.

My first thought lookign at it was ooooh too high up and to the right. I got in and tried it out..... I was wrong. Perfect. I'm 6'2" 250#, so I figure pretty average for this crew :), I leaned on this thing, I mean hard.

I felt some flex, so I leaned some more to figure out what was going on...it was the seat back flexing, not the dead pedal..... I'd say this product wins the fat guy seal of approval!!!

BC4E,

I took a little more off the plastic piece than you showed in the destructions, seemed to fit better. And I added a second 10mm nut to hold the bracket better. All told witha little test fit and rooting for a 10mm nut, 30 minute job. Sweet.

I have been test driving my BC4E dead pedal for exactly one month, now. It took me 2 seconds to get used to it, and if it disappeared now I would not be able to drive my car. I love it, though I have to admit that I hadn't even thought about it at all for about 3 and a half weeks till yesterday when I realized once again that it was there. Oh, by the way the dead pedal has enjoyed the spirited driving. Dennis. I have not, unfortunately; been compensated for this except by the excellence of my $45.00 investment. OK everyone. I know it's been a while but I have 11 more done. I have been busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest. To make life a little easier I am just going to set a flat rate for shipping. Mostly cause the UPS estimater has been low on every one I have shipped so far. So $62 includes UPS ground shipping to anywhere in the continental US. If you want to pay by credit card through paypal please add $3 cause that's what I get charged by pay pal for credit card transfers. Please PM me and I will reply with my paypal account and I can email the install instructions as a pdf. Sorry for the change in the rules but I just need to simplify this. Thanks, Ron

Exactly what does a 'dead pedal' do?

fastblackmerc

Exactly what does a 'dead pedal' do?
Do a search and you'll find an answer.

From SgtMac's latest post: "A dead pedal is many things to many people, but it's original intent on the Marauder was to give shorter folks some "floor" for their left foot. Kenny Brown is about 5'8" tall.

I'm 5'9", wear a 9-10 size shoe (depending on shoe style), and I can't touch the floor when seated in my favorite driving position. With a dead pedal in place, I can brace myself in the seat with my left foot, while my right is free to brake or accelerate.

I am sure I am exerting much down force of the pedal, so, it's got to be strong and securely mounted, and this frees my upper body to control the car without getting thrown around in the twisties/hard cornering.

You guys over 6'/size 13, could prolly care less...LOL!"

It sits right where you need it, stout as hell, looks killer and doesn't interfere with the interior trim (no cutting except for on the wire harness behind the kick panel) or floormat.

I don't think I could live without it now.

If you have them please pm me and i will put a check in the mail. Thanks!

I finally installed mine. Nice. Piece of cake to do. I had only one nut holding the plastic wiring harness on the two supplied studs. Good thing I saved the nut I found under the seat when I got the car. It was the same size, different color, but same size......

I think I need to adjust the pitch just a bit. Any ideas ????? I will give it a couple days, but I think I need to increase the angle about 3-5 degrees.

Why didn't the Marauder come with this already?????

Nice job Ron....!

More steep or flatter?

Just a bit more steep. I am driving 160 miles daily this week. I am fidgeting around with my seat to get the right fit w/o having to shim the top......

I suspect I could get a couple Stainless Steel washers and put them under the rest to raise the top, while leaving the bottom where it is.....? I imagine 1/4 inch would do.

Maybe even a rubber cover to bolt to the aluminum rest. Could be extended too.

A modded mod ??????

I prolly just have to get used to it. The one in my Jag is what I am used to.... Need to stop driving the Jag !

I got mine last year! I love it!

The first day I drove my MM home to CT from LI, NY was the first extended trip I'd taken besides a test drive. I remember, not to far into my trip, that my left foot was hype-extended and wished for a DP right then and there. Looked up KB, but we all know the state of that affair.

When BC4E came along w/ his solution, and the reviews he got....I was sold.

Solid piece, no-hassle install and immediate satisfaction....

Looks like if we keep posting this up there may be another round for another group??

Best of luck...these homegrown solutions are a neat benefit to this site...

I am looking at geting more rod stock so everyone gets one but i need to see where we all stand. The price is $65. That includes shipping to the continental US. Paypal is fine but so is check or money order. I am going to offer these in the order requested. I will post the list here and pm the first six persons onthe list. They are 1/2 inch 8-32 flat SS flat heads but on the new run I went with a 6 - 32 because I wouldn't have to ream all the bracket holes wich was time consuming.

Just got mine and installed it... I had just put on the new rotors and pads I got for Christmas (courtesy of Dennis Reinhart’s shop) from my wife. The dead pedal was a great asset in keeping my big old behind in the seat while breaking in the new binders... Just a side note (remember to each mod’er his own) I repainted all of the silver painted surfaces flat black...The shiny pedal surface of coarse I left alone but I wanted to camouflage the remaining parts, short of like a hovering third pedal. Big Grin! Thankx again Ron!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

You can buy smaller lengths of 1018 steel online from:

I've been hanging on my inversion table every morning and night. That usually sets me straight again. I'll be ok by Sat. Jim, thanks for the offer but there is a definate learning curve in bending these things and once they're bent there's no going back. With the bench bender I use this is more art than science. I have a box full of "learning" that I may turn into a piece of art one day.

Stuck them in the holes on the dead pedal . Kind of gives it a bit more finished look.

what is the purpose of this type pedal

It is a high performance boost pedal, keeps you planted in your seat when you nail the gas pedal! ;)

Kidding aside, your left foot sort of dangles or is positoned odd without the dead pedal. It simply gives your left foot a comfortable place to rest.
I have found that my left knee and ankle gets sore on long trips from an odd sitting position. I tend to plant my foot sideways on the floor, holding my knee against the door. Odd, yes, but it beats sliding around in the seat.

All roadrace cars have them. When you nail wicked off ramps, don't you feel like you need one? I feel like I'm going to slide out of the car!

Just got mine today. Looks great. But I have no installation instructions, and no mounting hardware...

I'll have to search around and see what everyone else is doing...

Thanks GM,

I never got the instructions, but figured it out myself. It's easy for an expert, but I think a novice could have some trouble with the clips holding the kickpanel in, and a couple other issues.

For someone with experience, pretty simple. There is always the fear of breaking a plastic part, when wrestling with these things, though

I lost one of the white bottons that the panel slides into. I had to pull it out to put it on the panel, then install the panel, but it popped out of the door jam, and I could never find it again:shake:

Firstly, kudos for a quality, robust, well fitting item. The holes line up, and it slides right in place.

Having said that, I would be interested in a LIGHTWEIGHT version of this pedal. Version 2.0. It could easily be made of aluminum sheet stock. Even if it was engineered in a manner that required cutting the carpet, I wouldn't care. Or, it could be made in a similar manner to this one, with Aluminum sheet and bar stock. Look, on a boat like this, I'll take every pound I can in savings...

Positioning: I'm taking the car out to evaluate the pedal now. My initial impression just sitting in the driveway is that it's a bit high for me. I'm 5' 11" with a 31" inseam, and like my seat way back, with the steering column way down. I'm most comfortable like that. In this position, the pedal is too high, and my foot's pad (the part that makes contact with the ground, below the toes) just makes it on the very bottom edge of the pedal. While resting my foot on the pedal, I actually see half of the pedal ABOVE my foot, where it serves no fuction.

I think BigCars4Ever designed it like this, maybe, so we wouldn't have to cut the carpet. That's why it's so high, and why he used really heavy steel bar stock - so he could cantilever the pedal way over the rug. I just don't like the weight, and I'm not yet sure it goes down far enough...

Again, the fit and finish are top notch, and it is robust. For someone who sits close to the dash, and doesn't care about shaving weight, it could be perfect.

I'm going to test it out for a few days, and see if It grows on me. I'll report. Looking forward to some hard right handers :D

Thanks, BigCars.

I too am 5' 11" with a 32" inseam, and drive with the seat all the way back, but not with the steering wheel in my lap (I can't take quick turns fast with it low). I find the pedal in perfect position. I can keep my foot flat on it when I take hard turns. I also can understand your concern with weight reduction, but seriously about a pound in a heavyweight car is never going to be noticed in anyway shape or form. If you are gutting the car and making a race only then ok. Heck the best way for me to make my car lighter is to lose weight.;)
Long story short the pedal is GREAT, and I wouldn't change a thing.
