I have always condsidered this a risky business with a new car. My 03 marauder ain't to bad as shipped from the factory. My first new car was a 65 mustang 289 two bbl. three speed, and it was fine for the time. Over the years I have observed that an original, non modified car will always be at a premium. Just food for thought.

A lot of guys have been keeping all their original pieces just for that reason

RC Keeping the orignal pieces is a MUST. In the old days we just threw them away, what a mistake. John

After my wreck--I decided to heck with the warranty--car was almost totally taken away without having any fun or any mods---not gonna happen now---already started on the mods while in the body shop---crap --if they can't build a car to last 36k before falling apart---then I'da missed all the fun getting there w/o the mods---screw it----getting a second chance and I'm ataken it...

When I got my 300A last July, I was torn between what to do, and what not to do. I was going nutz over changing anything at all, or, turning any screw once. All I had to pick from back then, was "to chip, or not to chip," and maybe some headlight bulbs.
Then came Reinhart. Gears, Denso plugs, Stallion torque converter, under drive pulleys, and up against some noteworthy and time honored, but dated concepts, like K&N filters, and FlowMasters mufflers, and the list, as well as the history, marches on...
My seduction into the MM afterworld may have been ignited by LM marketing, but it didn't stop there, and it hasn't cooled one bit. I think LM is aware now, and worried too. If this growth continues, the color of money may cause LM to consider an '05. And I'd tell them not to change anything. Don't decontent anymore, we got your point. No traction control, so what. No fuel door release, who cares. No "?" roof..Okay, we hear you. Don't give us another feature over what we already get, okay? But don't take back anymore either? Just let us take this journey blind, allow those shy of the exploration to sit back and wonder...what?
Lots of things have changed since last July, I've learned a lot in tweaking my MM, adding mods, getting dyno reports, advising my brother (and sister) MM owners on real world progress and performance of any suggested upgrade, including goofing things up upgrade-wise, and getting them straightened out too. All just goofing around in general, with a car none of us ever expected to be available to us at all, ever again.
I don't mean to brag now, but I feel I have a pretty quick MM, jusy from bolting on the mods I have. I have all my OEM parts stored, even some spares, and I could do a full restore in a few days and no one would know the difference...except for that damn OASIS.
Like a freaking bum (unfair?) credit report, something phone company related from way back when there was only one phone company, entries that follow you everywhere and forever. So, in 10 maybe 15 years, I could claim my 300A to be "pristine" or "OEM perfect," but the OASIS paper trail will tell on me. Sigh...No escaping this.
So, I've decided to move on, break into the motor, trans, whatever, and let my MM take me where she wants to go. I'm all for modding my MM more and guess what...Again I can't decide.
I'll watch the retail sales and availability, and if I'm inclined at the moment the LM throws the off switch, I'll snatch up a late issue '04 in silver or red, and bag her for history's sake.
Between what I've learned, the fun I've had, and what all this has come to cost me, I may be able to break even someday, if I own a pristine MM with a negative OASIS history.
Meanwhile, I'm having fun y'all cannot believe, and you can't have any fun if you don't tweak and tune. I know this isn't a program for everyone, some of us here have to respect the warranty for financial reasons, but even for those here who are so warranty restrained, one day that won't matter anymore. Then what? Better make some notes now, eh?
Right now, we have 4100 MMs, maybe nore, on the street, in less than one year of availability. And if you don't write down the names, e-addys, phone numbers, anything at all about the suppliers, modders, vendors, tuners and tweakers available right now here today, you'll forget them all. As the old adage says, "take a picture, it last longer."
Six months ago, we cried together here, about who is going to help us mod, even support our MMs in old age. Today, THEY are writing to US...Name your poison...
My advice is, that if you own an MM, use it, mod it, drive it it like you stole it. We will not walk this way again. Go for broke now, or, get out of my way...
IMHO.

Im With You SARGE!
not to dis anybody, but i feel sorry for the People who buy cars from the factory, and leave all the plastic on the seats and throw it in a garage for 25 years with only 2 miles on it. WHERES THE FUN IN THAT! yea its an investment, but they are just preseving a car for someone else to enjoy. It took me 2 years to realize that! I wouldnt do any customizing of any sort to my DMC, then I realized, The DeLorean is no good if I cant enjoy it (trust me its an awsome car, but at 130HP and a terrible 3speed thats so senstive no man can enjoy it. so I riped the engine out:up: )! the moral of the story is Enjoy your car like it is worth nothing (so your not tempted to sell it) and treat it like you will be its ONLY OWNER! I never plan to sell it, so why should I keep It 100% original? Its my car I can do WHATEVER I want to It!
Be Creative.
My only Concern is the warranty! but thats because this is the first NEW car I've ever owned and I want to take full advantage of the warranty (which ive never had the pleasure of before). cars break and theres nothing better than having someone else pay for it! but here this, as soon as (and I mean the second) the warranty expires, WATCH OUT:D!

This is my last comment on my thread. I feel after market mod's can, but not always open a can of worms with all kinds of problems. I have seen in other car mags I get, ( including mustang monthly) that after added hp mod's the car has all kind of things that don't work any more. However, it's your car, your money, do what you want. It's the AMERICAN WAY! Regards, Vietnam Vet, NRA Patron LIfe Member!
